Going to temples at the beginning of the year has long become a habit and a traditional cultural feature in the spiritual life of Vietnamese people. Early in the morning of the first day of Tet, many large temples in Hanoi were crowded with visitors.
At around 9am, Quan Su Pagoda (Hoan Kiem District) had hundreds of people coming to offer incense and worship.
Quan Su Pagoda was built under King Tran Du Tong in the 14th century. This place is always crowded during Tet.
Today the streets are deserted, coming to the temple is to feel the peaceful and solemn atmosphere. The weather in Hanoi is also very nice, not too cold, making the first day of Tet even more meaningful."
Ms. Do Thuy Oanh (Hai Ba Trung district), who has lived in Hanoi since childhood, said: "For many years, my family has gone to the temple near our house, then to Quan Su pagoda, Van Nien pagoda... to pray for peace.
Quan Thanh Temple was similarly crowded this morning.
This year inside the temple there is also a photo exhibition about the history of this sacred temple.
Tran Quoc Pagoda on West Lake is crowded with visitors from 8am. This place was once voted one of the 16 most beautiful pagodas in the world.
This temple always attracts many visitors every early spring.
Mr. Hoang Nghia and his group of close friends went to Tran Quoc Pagoda. "We went to high school together, now we are working, but every New Year we still make time to go to the pagoda. Coming here, in addition to enjoying the spring scenery, the whole group also does not forget to pray for a peaceful new year for our family," Mr. Nghia shared.
The weather in Hanoi today is nice but a bit cold. Many women wear bright red and pink ao dai when going out for spring outings and taking photos.
Similar scene at Tay Ho Temple at 8am on the first day of Tet. Going to the temple at this time, people do not have to jostle much because the density of visitors to the temple is not too thick yet.
Many old men wearing traditional Vietnamese costumes and turbans sat waiting for visitors to write Chinese characters at the entrance to the palace.
Young person Phan Thi Moc Diep (right photo) shared, I came here to pray for my family to have good luck, peace, smooth work in the new year, and for my children to pass their exams.
Ms. Vu Thi Thi from Ha Dong (left) shared: "We came here to pray for everyone and their families to be healthy, safe, and have everything go smoothly."
Inside the temple, people jostled to make offerings and pray for good luck and good things on the occasion of the New Year.
Many people also came to release animals at West Lake, Tay Ho Palace area this morning. The price of a fish bowl and bird cage to release animals is 50,000 VND.
To ensure security at Tran Quoc Pagoda and the road to Tay Ho Palace, Yen Phu ward authorities have deployed traffic control and ensured security and order.
