Bringing Vietnamese fruit products to Chinese e-commerce platforms will boost export turnover to this market.

Fruit and vegetable export turnover of 10 billion USD is not far away.

China is the largest export market for Vietnamese fruits and vegetables. Currently, Vietnam is officially exporting 11 types of specialty fruits to China such as durian, jackfruit, dragon fruit, banana, mango, longan, lychee, watermelon, rambutan, mangosteen, passion fruit, sweet potato, and black-bone tree. Notably, this market currently consumes 90% of lychee and 80% of dragon fruit from Vietnam.

Fruit and vegetable exports to the Chinese market are forecast to reach between 4.5 and 5 billion USD in 2024. Durian exports alone are estimated to have exceeded 2.5 billion USD by the end of September 2024, and are expected to reach more than 3 billion USD by the end of 2024.

Notably, with the current growth trend and increasing consumption demand of the Chinese market, industry experts have predicted that Vietnamese fruits and vegetables have the potential to reach the export milestone of 10 billion USD in the near future.

In addition, data from the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association shows that Vietnam's fruit and vegetable export turnover in 2023 will reach 5.6 billion USD, with China alone accounting for 3.63 billion USD, accounting for nearly 65% of Vietnam's total fruit export turnover. It is forecasted that in 2024, Vietnam's fruit and vegetable export turnover will be about 7.5 billion USD, with China alone reaching over 5 billion USD, accounting for about 70% of the fruit and vegetable export volume.

Our country has many opportunities and potential to export fruits to China.

According to Mr. Dang Phuc Nguyen - General Secretary of the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association, our country has many opportunities and potential to export fruit and vegetable products to China, when the demand for fruit and vegetable consumption in this market is very large. In particular, if Vietnamese fruit products can be brought to Chinese e-commerce platforms, the export turnover to this market will grow even stronger.

According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, local authorities need to unify the implementation of regulations in border trade management. Specifically, in 2029, the Ministry of Finance will report to the Government on adjusting the number of tax exemptions and the amount of tax exemption for imported goods in the form of buying and selling and exchanging goods by border residents.

From January 1, 2029, when conducting cross-border trading and exchange of goods, border residents must be present to complete import and export procedures. From January 1, 2030, import and export procedures can only be completed at: international border gates; main border gates; secondary border gates; customs clearance routes, specialized roads for transporting goods at international border gates, main border gates; border openings that have completed the opening procedures, upgrading border gates...

Over the past time, our country has made efforts to remove obstacles for the export of Vietnamese agricultural, forestry and fishery products to the Chinese market. At the same time, we have diversified the products brought to this billion-people market.

Most recently, on August 19, the Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the General Administration of Customs of China signed three protocols on the export of frozen durian, fresh coconut and crocodile from Vietnam to the Chinese market.

In particular, our country has aimed for higher goals to dominate the market when cooperating to build and operate Vietnamese agricultural product booths on Chinese e-commerce and social networking platforms. Through that, we will strengthen the promotion of agricultural product consumption and directly access this market to promote the export of agricultural and aquatic products with strengths and high economic value. As a result, on November 20, the launching ceremony of Vietnamese agricultural product booths on Chinese e-commerce and social networking platforms was organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

According to economic experts, for long-term development, Vietnamese enterprises need to export officially to the Chinese market. In particular, they need to aim to set foot on e-commerce platforms here. "When connected to the e-commerce platform system, Vietnamese agricultural products will directly reach Chinese consumers. Vietnamese enterprises will limit costs for trade promotion, product promotion and reduce worries about transportation costs," said Nguyen Thanh Binh, Chairman of the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association.

According to the General Secretary of the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association, introducing Vietnamese agricultural products on Chinese e-commerce platforms and social networks is a remarkable success in promoting international cooperation and linkages; so that export turnover to China can achieve rapid growth in the coming time./.
