On February 18, the VDMA Mechanical Engineering Association held a press conference about the exhibition for the beverage and liquid food industry (Drinktec 2025), giving comments on the global machinery market, consumer trends as well as prominent topics at Drinktec 2025.
According to the assessment, the global food and beverage industry is one of the most dynamic growth sectors, and plays an important role in the industrial base of many countries.
However, the industry is also subject to fierce competition, price pressure, constant product innovation and increasingly shorter product life cycles.
Therefore, constant investments in advanced technologies to enhance efficiency, increase flexibility and optimize sustainable manufacturing and packaging processes are driving high demand for machinery.
Competition requires constant innovation, shorter life cycles
VDMA representative said that the total global trade turnover of food processing and packaging machinery has grown continuously over the past years.
In the 10 years from 2014 to 2023, the industry's total international trade value - based on export data from 52 industrial countries - reached 428 billion euros, corresponding to a growth of 46%.
Global exports of food processing and packaging machinery to Asia are worth around $9-10 billion per year. Vietnam is also a major importer of these machines.
In 2023 alone, the total value of machinery imported into Vietnam reached 517 million euros, half of which came from China.
Italy ranked second with 50 million euros, followed by Japan (44 million euros), and South Korea (43 million euros). Germany ranked fifth in the list of top 10 supplying countries, with a total export turnover of 32 million euros to Vietnam.
In 2024, the total export turnover of food processing and packaging machinery from Europe to Vietnam increased by 27% to 130 million euros, of which nearly half of the machinery came from Germany. Therefore, VDMA believes that investment in Vietnam will continue to be strong.

Vietnam beverage market outlook positive
The beverage market outlook is also positive, with Vietnam ranking 8th in the top 10 largest beverage markets in Asia. Fierce competition on the supply side, coupled with rising incomes and a young population on the demand side, are driving sales in this market.
In 2024, total beverage consumption in Vietnam will reach nearly 6 billion liters, with a forecast to increase by 28% by 2028. Alcohol consumption in Vietnam is forecast to increase by nearly 50%, from 4.3 billion liters to 6.5 billion liters by 2028, the highest growth rate among the top 10 largest markets in Asia.
Mr. Markus Kosak, CEO of the Drinktec exhibition series at YONTEX, shared that the trend of personalization is also growing. This drives the demand for product formulations tailored based on consumers' nutritional needs.
Additionally, the “Data2Value” theme at the exhibition will delve into digitalization activities in the industry, highlighting how AI tools are expanding the potential for data applications across the entire value chain.
In addition, market surveys show that sustainable products and production processes remain a top priority in consumer awareness. For many beverage manufacturers, this factor has even become an important criterion in investment decisions.
