“Determined not to let people lack water for daily use”. That was the direction of Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee – Nguyen Minh Lam during his inspection and working trip with Can Giuoc district on the situation of domestic water supply in the dry season in the locality. Accompanying the working delegation were leaders of relevant departments and branches.
Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee - Nguyen Minh Lam and the working delegation conducted a field survey in Tan Tap commune, the locality most severely affected and facing the most difficulties in terms of domestic water resources due to the impact of drought and saltwater intrusion in the dry season of 2023-2024. Most of the residents here lack domestic water and have to rely on water regulation from suppliers and free support from the Provincial Military Command and benefactors. In total, Can Giuoc district has nearly 4,200 households lacking domestic water in 5 communes in the lower region: Tan Tap, Phuoc Vinh Dong, Phuoc Vinh Tay, Phuoc Lai and Dong Thanh. This situation has been happening for about the past month.
After the field survey, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee - Nguyen Minh Lam listened to the leaders of Can Giuoc district, the communes in the lower part of the district and the water supply units in the district present and share the difficulties and efforts in regulating and supplying water to the people at present, as well as recommend and advise on fundamental solutions to solve the problem of clean water shortage in the long term.
It is forecasted that the drought and saltwater intrusion situation will be more severe and prolonged, so Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee - Nguyen Minh Lam requested relevant departments, Can Giuoc district authorities and water supply units to be flexible in solutions, especially solutions to regulate water from districts with enough water to districts with shortage to share difficulties together.
Besides, The Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee also requested the Department of Construction to speed up the progress of water supply projects; the Department of Natural Resources and Environment must survey and immediately reopen reserve wells to serve the people until the water supply is guaranteed, and absolutely no one will lack water for daily use.
