Latest regulations on excellent student exams for grades 9 and 12 in Ho Chi Minh City

City-level 12th grade excellent student selection exam 2024

The 9th grade gifted student exam has 2 new subjects.

Accordingly, for the exam to select excellent 9th grade students at the city level, the Department of Education and Training will organize it on March 14, 2025 with the following subjects (test time 120 minutes): Literature, history and geography, math, natural science, information technology, English, French, Chinese, Japanese, technology (industrial orientation), technology (agricultural orientation).

Contestants are students studying in grade 9 at secondary schools in the 2024-2025 school year with good or better academic and training results in the first semester, and are members of the excellent student teams of the participating units.

Exam content: 2018 general education program, oriented towards assessing students' thinking and practical application abilities.

According to the new curriculum, the exam will have two new subjects compared to previous years: history and geography, and natural science.

In which, natural science has 2 parts: Compulsory part (accounting for 30% of the score): General knowledge; Elective part (accounting for 70% of the score): Students can choose one of 3 content streams:

• Substance and its transformation; Earth and sky.
• Energy and Transformation; Earth and Sky.
• Living things; Earth and sky.

History and geography: Students can choose one of two subjects: History or geography.

Computer Science: Computer programming test.

Foreign language subjects have a listening test.

12th grade excellent student exam: Conditions for ranking from 10 points or more

For the exam to select excellent students in grade 12 at the city level, the Department of Education and Training will organize it on February 25, 2025 with the following subjects: math, physics, chemistry, biology, information technology, literature, history, geography, economic and legal education, English, French, Japanese, Chinese (foreign languages ​​have a listening section). The exam content follows the 2018 General Education Program, oriented to assess students' thinking and practical application abilities.

The conditions for participating in the excellent student exam are students in grade 12 of the 2024-2025 school year, with good or better academic and training results in the first semester. Note: Students in the city's excellent student team participating in the national excellent student exam are not allowed to participate.

The Department of Education and Training will award individual prizes (first, second, third) for each subject. The percentage of students winning prizes must not exceed 60% of the total number of students taking the exam (in which the number of students winning first prizes must not exceed 5% of the total number of students winning prizes) and the prize ranking condition is from 10 points or more.

Students who won first prize were awarded according to Resolution 02/2021/NQ-HDND dated March 23, 2021 of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council. All students who won prizes were awarded certificates of excellent students at the city level.
