A facility of Tam Tue Duc Primary and Secondary School system
On March 28, the Food Safety Department (Ministry of Health) said it had received information about suspected food poisoning cases occurring at two schools, Tue Duc Primary and Secondary School (campus 1/5 Bis Luong Dinh Cua, An Khanh ward) and Tue Duc Primary and Secondary School (campus 644 Nguyen Thi Dinh, Thanh My Loi ward).
Of these, about 33 students showed symptoms of stomachache, diarrhea, and nausea after eating school meals provided by the same company in Tan Phu district (HCMC).
The suspected poisonings occurred on the same day and involved the same food groups suspected of causing the poisoning.
Faced with the above situation, the Food Safety Department requested the Ho Chi Minh City Food Safety Department to urgently organize an investigation and trace the origin of food to clearly identify the source of raw materials and food for the processing facility suspected of causing poisoning.
At the same time, take food and medical samples for testing to find the cause.
Temporarily suspend the operation of a food processing facility suspected of causing food poisoning if it is discovered that there is a risk of further food poisoning; strictly handle violations of food safety regulations (if any) and publicize the results to promptly warn the community.
In addition, it is recommended that the Department of Food Safety strengthen management measures, especially in collective kitchens and food service establishments to limit the risk of food poisoning.
Strengthen propaganda and guidance for collective kitchens and food service establishments to strictly control the origin and source of food ingredients, ensure hygiene during the process of preliminary processing, processing, and transportation of food, food safety conditions, three-step food inspection, and food sample storage.
After implementation, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Food Safety must report the results to the Department of Food Safety according to regulations.
Previously, information from a quick report from two schools in the Tue Duc education system said that on March 26 and 27, a total of 45 students of the school showed signs of stomachache, some of whom had headaches, nausea, diarrhea, some had mild stomachaches, and some had to be hospitalized.
The students showed these symptoms after eating breakfast, lunch, and afternoon tea on March 25 and 26 at school and are suspected of having food poisoning.
Also according to information from the above report, after there were cases of students being hospitalized with stomach aches suspected of being caused by food poisoning from food sources at school, this school system took samples for testing and sent food samples for testing 4 times from 2 independent medical inspection sources.
