When I held the beautiful and full book “The Sower and the Flower Seasons” in my hand, I was extremely moved and happy. I counted carefully and found that there were 68 authors participating in the book, including: 2 notes; 14 short stories; 12 memoirs; 1 essay; 8 prose; 71 poems; 6 music works. This is the result of a very creative collaboration between the Department of Education and Training and the Quang Tri Literature and Arts Association through a creative camp to arouse in everyone the precious feelings for the great contributions, the silent sacrifices of the team of teachers and the belief in the strong development of education and training in the province.
Through nearly 700 pages of the book, I met many people who sowed seeds and nurtured with all their love for the students of a resilient land that revived after the storm of bombs and bullets, persistently overcoming all the fierceness of the post-war period, patiently enduring hardships on the barren land, through harsh weather, reminding themselves to heal their wounds to welcome peace... "In fact, it is said that we are under the same roof, but the education of our province is still the education of two regions. This is a unique difference that only exists in Quang Tri and cannot be found in any other province in our country at this time" (Notes by Le Mau Dat).
Only by understanding this can we see that since 1972, Mr. Nguyen Van Tu and Mr. Le Trong Tu have both solved many difficulties of the newly liberated land, the lack of schools, the repatriation of people with many initial hardships, and coordinated very well, leaving a harmonious mark on the two regions, creating momentum for future development. Merging and then separating the province, Quang Tri is a poor province, posing many difficult educational problems for Mr. Truong Sy Tien (from 1989, the period of Quang Tri education after the reestablishment of the province) and Mr. Le Phuoc Long (the first decade of the 21st century). As Mr. Le Mau Dat wrote: "The two of them are like a pair of sharp cards, truly architects who designed and built the education career of Quang Tri".
Book "The Sower and the Flower Seasons" - Thuan Hoa Publishing House - 2022.
The "Commune Education Congress", the "Carrying letters to the mountains" campaign, the "Boarding schools for the people" model... have helped realize unprecedented and seemingly impossible things. Quang Tri Education is proud to have taken the lead and become a common model chosen by the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) to replicate and spread across the country. There are bold breakthrough solutions such as in 1991, the Information Technology Center - Department of Education and Training was established 3 years before the Ministry officially introduced information technology into schools (1994); at that time, the center's two software: High School Graduation Exam Management and Martyr Records Management had been used by several provinces for many years, before the Ministry's software was introduced.
Looking back at the time when rice was mixed with corn and cassava slices; the time when many schools were just simple thatched roofs, especially schools in remote mountainous areas; the time when Quang Tri education was associated with many words such as white areas, poor areas, low-lying areas... it was very pitiful, but our greatest wealth at that time was the relationship between teachers and students: Teachers were enthusiastic and devoted to education, students were not only studious, but also hard-working and thirsty for learning.
It is impossible to mention all the examples of dedication and silent sacrifice for the cause of education in Quang Tri. All the prose and poetry works printed in the anthology, directly or indirectly through images, have allowed us to meet them. Starting from the "resistance school" in the Cua area, which existed for less than 1,500 days (1950-1954), went through 5 relocations and was burned down by the enemy dozens of times, we met a wonderful team of teachers: Phan Cu Nhan, Ho Si Phan, Thai Tang Ly, Ho Dinh Lu, Pham Viet Trinh, Phan Huu Danh, Dong Pham De, Ngo Thien Tu, Do Xuan Trach, Nguyen Ba Tan... who nurtured the seeds of future talents of Vietnam.
That is the young teacher Doan Van Phong who sacrificed his life on the way to class in the mountainous district of Huong Hoa. That is the teachers Nguyen Thi Nghiep, Nguyen Thi Kim Lien, Le Thi Ha... who went to work in the border area and died of malaria. That is the teacher, Principal Ha Cong Van, from Quang Binh, who devoted his life to writing a beautiful story for the education cause in the mountainous region of Quang Tri - his second homeland, respected as "The light on the Truong Son mountains and forests" forever. (Le Duc Duc's memoir). That is the teachers Nguyen Nguyen Long, Le Duy Minh,... and students of Vinh Linh High School who taught and learned "Words under the bombs" with sweat, blood, tears and even human lives (Le Van The's memoir). That was the disabled teacher Ho Roang, a Van Kieu ethnic in Vinh Ha commune, Vinh Linh district. While instructing students in geography gardening, a cluster bomb in the ground was hit by a hoe and exploded, causing him to go blind and become disabled, losing 60% of his strength, but his love for the profession did not fade. (Minh Tu's notes).
That is teacher Pham Cong Duc, who was praised as "American killer" since he was 9 years old, and appeared in historical films: "17th Parallel - People's War" by director Joris Ivens, a French-Dutch national, the documentary: "Return to Vinh Linh - 40 years later" and in the memoir "Carrying... carrying..." by director - writer Xuan Phuong. With nearly 40 years of teaching, teacher Pham Cong Duc always wishes to be attached to and dedicate himself to the cause of educating people in his homeland (Memoirs of Tran Bien). That is teacher Tri, teacher Liem, teacher Quang - those who persevere in "Sowing letters by the Se Bang Hieng River". That is 33 teachers and 325 students from 3 to 5 years old of Cua Viet Town Kindergarten like "white sand sunflowers" always turning towards the sun... (Memoirs of Nguyen Thanh Phu). That is the teacher, Principal Nguyen Mai Trong, who wished and gradually pioneered and innovated: "My burning desire is to make it possible for students in mountainous areas to access urban educational conditions in terms of both facilities and educational quality" (Diary of Doan Phuong Nam).
That is "The flowers of the mountains and forests" Vinh Khe, teachers Nguyen Van Chung, Ho Doang, Ho Phia, Le Van Ban (now deceased), Ho Thi Xuan, Nguyen Quang Tro, Ngo Van Loc, Nguyen Van Tuyen, Le Thi Vinh, Ho Ray, Le Thi Hai Ly, Truong Thi Thuy, Ho Thi Hong, Truong Thi Phuong, Ngo Van Loc, Do Van Quang... (Notes by Ngo Nguyen Phuoc). That is teacher, Principal Le Thanh Tung who closely coordinated with the Border Guard, harmoniously combined with teachers to create a lively and creative teaching atmosphere in the border area (Notes by Nguyen Thanh Phu). That is teacher Tran Thi Thanh Nga, teaching English, teaching how to be a person, "quietly lighting up dreams..." for students in the highlands of Huong Hoa. (Work by Tran Duc Nhat Toan). That is teacher from Son Tay Nguyen Thi Hong Van: "There is a daughter-in-law who married a man from Quang Tri/ She devoted months and years to nurturing the buds" (Work by Nguyen Huu Thang)...
There are countless teachers from the highlands and lowlands, in the province and outside the province who have silently sown the seeds of love for all Quang Tri students before and over the past half century, which cannot be fully described by any pen or ink. I hope there will be more books for education in the province, for teachers and students to seek and nurture talents; we can also raise broader issues, not just the field of education in schools...
