Traditional markets fight against 'fire'

Long An province has about 125 traditional markets. The markets all gather large quantities of goods, so there is a potential risk of fire and explosion. To proactively prevent "fire", in addition to the involvement of functional agencies, traders also raise awareness of complying with regulations on fire prevention and fighting (PCCC).

Tan An Market (Tan An City) and Ward 2 Market (old) have about 1,300 small traders buying and selling all kinds of goods. The quantity of goods is large, including many flammable items such as electrical appliances, votive offerings, and clothes, so the risk of fire and explosion is still latent.

To ensure the safety of life and property for themselves and those around them, small traders have raised awareness and proactively prevented "fire".

Ms. Truong Thi Men - a trader who has been associated with Tan An market for more than 30 years, shared: "Since the police have provided guidance and regularly inspected fire prevention and fighting, I feel more secure in my business. Each stall has a fire extinguisher . Traders often remind each other to turn off electrical equipment when leaving. Everyone is careful, because if a fire or explosion occurs, the biggest loss will still be on us."

Not only that, small traders at Tan An market also actively participate in fire prevention and fighting propaganda sessions to gain knowledge and skills.

Mr. Tran Van Hung, who often goes to Tan An market, said: "I see that the market is increasingly focusing on fire safety. Thanks to that, I feel secure when shopping here."

Go Den Market (Ben Luc District) is equipped with nearly 40 modern fire extinguishers and an automatic fire alarm system at the stalls, creating a "fire shield" to protect the market.

Not stopping at investing in equipment, the Market Management Board also focuses on raising awareness and response skills for the grassroots fire prevention force and hundreds of traders through training sessions and drills.

Deputy Manager of Go Den Market - Bui Gia Viet An said: "In addition to equipping a synchronous fire prevention system, the market management board also focuses on propaganda, mobilization and requires traders to sign a commitment to strictly comply with fire prevention and safety regulations, absolutely not burning incense or cooking in the grocery business area".

In addition to traditional markets , the province currently has more than 30,000 houses that combine production and business. To ensure fire safety at these establishments, the provincial police have directed professional units and local police to increase inspections, thereby contributing to raising awareness of fire safety for business households.

“Most businesses in residential areas pose a risk of fire and explosion due to the concentration of flammable materials, tangled electrical wires, lack of emergency exits and rudimentary fire fighting equipment. Therefore, in addition to propaganda, the Commune Police have increased inspections and strictly handled cases of intentional violations of fire prevention and fighting regulations,” Captain Pham Thi Phuong Hang, Deputy Head of Phuoc Loi Commune Police, Ben Luc District, informed./.
