Celebrating the 50th anniversary of Dau Giay liberation and receiving the Certificate of recognition for Thong Nhat district meeting the standards of an advanced new rural district in 2024: An industrial district takes the lead in building advanced new rural areas.

Exactly on this day 50 years ago, at Dau Giay crossroads, the army and people of Thong Nhat district coordinated with the main force to fight to liberate Dau Giay, cutting off the enemy's supply line from Bien Hoa to Long Khanh, contributing to the historic Great Spring Victory of 1975, liberating the South and unifying the country.

This is an important event for the government and people of Thong Nhat district, both to review the glorious past tradition and to welcome important achievements recognizing the comprehensive development in all aspects of socio-economic, national defense and security of the locality. Overcoming difficulties, Thong Nhat has risen to the top, becoming the third locality in the province to be recognized as meeting advanced NTM standards.

Exploiting agricultural strengths

Thong Nhat district faced many difficulties in overcoming the consequences of war and restoring and developing the economy with a low starting point of backward agricultural production, poor infrastructure, and a high percentage of poor households. With the solidarity, courage, creativity, and determination of the entire political system and all classes of people, the district has achieved many impressive results in harmonious economic development between industry, agriculture, and services. Up to now, the proportion of industrial and handicraft production value in the district accounts for nearly 50%, the trade and service sector accounts for nearly 35%, and the agriculture, forestry, and fishery sector accounts for more than 15% of the district's economic structure.

Although the agriculture, forestry and fishery sector accounts for a low proportion, the district always focuses on investment in agriculture and rural areas. This is clearly shown in the results of the district's new rural construction. Thong Nhat is among the top of the province in new rural construction when it achieved the new rural district standard in 2015 and reached the advanced new rural district goal in 2024. The district achieved the advanced new rural standard with 100% of communes in the district ensuring the maintenance and stability of new rural communes; 7/9 communes (nearly 78%) ensuring the maintenance and stability of advanced new rural communes according to the new set of criteria for the 2021-2025 period. The district has Dau Giay town which has been recognized as meeting civilized urban standards.

In 2023, the average income per capita in Thong Nhat district will reach over 87.48 million VND, nearly 2 times higher than in 2015.

In particular, although strongly developing in industry and urban areas, the district always focuses on developing agricultural production, constantly improving the material and spiritual life of rural people in the district.

Up to now, the whole district has formed and integrated on the cadastral map 23 concentrated production areas with an area of ​​over 2.9 thousand hectares, 5 high-tech agricultural production points with an area of ​​14.5 hectares, 9 organic agricultural production points with an area of ​​70.8 hectares. The whole district has built 23 codes for export and domestic growing areas, including 20 codes for growing key crops including rambutan, banana, vegetables, durian, grapefruit... The whole district has built 75 chains linking production and consumption of key agricultural products. More than 273.6 hectares of key crops have been certified to meet VietGAP standards; there are 2 production models certified organic on grapefruit products, vegetables and 33 organic agricultural models.

The locality is a pioneer in applying advanced technical processes to production. Specifically, the rate of high-tech application in the district's cultivation sector reached 72.3%, and in the livestock sector reached 68.4%. The whole district has 23 OCOP products (One Commune One Product Program).

Live a good life, good religion

Thong Nhat is a locality with nearly 88% of its people following a religion; of which more than 77% are Catholic; many communes have nearly 100% of their population following Catholicism. The locality has many unique features but still does a good job of mobilizing the people, mobilizing the entire political system to participate in building the new rural area.

One of the outstanding results in the construction of new rural areas in this locality is the skillful mass mobilization work. The satisfaction rate of the people in the district with the results of the district's advanced new rural construction reached 99.64%, higher than the criteria requirement of over 95%.

Priest Hoang Van Doan, Parish Priest of Doc Mo Parish (Gia Tan 1 Commune), said that when the locality launched the New Rural Construction Movement, many criteria and targets were set from production development to education, health care, environment, etc., all aimed at contributing to improving the material and spiritual life of the people, so the parish actively encouraged parishioners to participate in the program to spread the spirit of living a good life and following good religion.

Chairwoman of the Gia Tan 1 Commune Elderly Association, Nguyen Thi Mo, is a prestigious person in the local campaign to build a new rural area. She has been a Party member for more than 15 years, has held many different positions and has been involved in the New Rural Area Construction Movement since its early days. According to Ms. Mo: “As a Party member, I must actively take the lead and set an example in all local movements, using reality to convince people to participate wholeheartedly.”

Through launching and organizing the Movement to Build Model Families, Model People's Groups, Bright - Green - Clean - Beautiful Roads, Model People's Groups, up to now, 100% of communal roads, inter-commune roads, village roads, inter-village roads and public areas have been installed with street lighting systems, planted with flowers, ornamental plants, lawns, shade trees... The rate of households renovating their houses, renovating mixed gardens, gate fences, and planting trees has reached 93.6%.

Chairman of Thong Nhat District People's Committee Mai Van Hien said that with the leadership of the District Party Committee and the supervision and facilitation of the District People's Council, every year, the District's New Rural Area Steering Committee has a specific new rural area construction program for the district, communes and towns in the area. The results achieved in building an advanced new rural area district, the locality has achieved many outstanding criteria such as: infrastructure investment, economic development, improving the quality of life; maintaining security and order; 100% of the traffic system basically meets standards, meeting both transportation and travel requirements. The district has no "backlog" of basic construction under the National Target Program on New Rural Area Construction. The political system has been built and consolidated.
