Quang Nam pilots Bai Choi in schools

On March 22, the People's Committee of Quang Nam province announced that it had just issued a plan to implement Resolution No. 10 of the Provincial People's Council on regulations on the content and level of support for preserving and promoting the value of intangible cultural heritage of the art of Bai Choi in the period of 2024-2030.

In the plan, the province sets a general goal of preserving and promoting the value of the heritage of Bai Choi, an art form recognized by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage of humanity; improving the scale, quantity and quality of Bai Choi clubs/teams/groups, continuing to preserve, transmit, popularize and promote for future generations.

The specific goal is that 100% of card playing clubs/teams/groups will be established by competent authorities; have regulations and charters to organize and maintain regular activities and enjoy support policies, including support for purchasing equipment and maintaining operations.

In particular, pilot teaching of the art of Bài Chòi in schools, including it in extracurricular activities, organizing festivals and exchanges for students. Each district, town and city establishes a Bài Chòi club/team/group to practice, perform and pass on the art of Bài Chòi.

Regarding the scope of implementation in 18 localities, the total cost of implementing the above phase is about 23 billion VND.

Regarding the implementation content, specifically, support will be given to research and inventory of intangible heritage of Bai Choi art in the province in 2024 and 2025 with a budget of 100 million VND/year.

Support the collection of artifacts, scripts, folk song lyrics of Bài Chòi through historical periods, images, musical instruments, costumes related to Bài Chòi art to serve the exhibition work at Quang Nam Museum from 2024-2026 with 100 million VND/year.

Support digitization and documentation of intangible heritage of Bai Choi art in 2024 and 2025 with a budget of 150 million VND/year.

In addition, support for purchasing equipment for community card playing clubs/teams/groups from 2024-2030 with a budget of 60 million VND/club/team/group, and support for maintaining operations of 9 million VND/club/team/group/year.

Support the organization of training courses on heritage management for cultural staff at all levels from 2024-2027 with 70 million VND/class.

In particular, support the pilot teaching of the art of Bài Chòi for 80 Bài Chòi clubs/teams/groups at 80 primary and secondary schools, to be implemented in 2024 with a budget of 20 million VND/club/team/group/school/year.

Support the maintenance of these 80 clubs from 2025-2030 with a budget of 7 million VND/school/year.
