The army has a new uniform.

The government revised the military uniform, including a long-sleeved jacket with a V-neck lapel, four hidden front pockets, buttoned pocket flaps, a shoulder strap with a rank insignia, and a logo on the left sleeve.

The Government has just issued a decree amending and supplementing a number of articles regulating military insignia, ranks, badges and uniforms.

Accordingly, the ceremonial uniform of male officers, professional soldiers, officer cadets and officer trainees will have an oval-shaped cap. The cap pins of generals, rear admirals, vice admirals and naval admirals will have an embossed national emblem. The cap pins of colonels and lieutenants will have an embossed five-pointed star. In the middle of the front of the cap, there will be an umbrella to wear military insignia; on the front of the cap, there will be a cord, and below the cap, there will be two ears of rice.

For the army, the cap top is dark olive, the cap wall is red; for the Border Guard, the cap top is dark olive, the cap wall is green; for the Air Defense - Air Force, the cap top is dark blue, the cap wall is peace blue; for the Navy, the cap top is white, the cap wall is dark purple.

The government stipulates that the military jacket is long-sleeved, has a V-shaped lapel; the front has four hidden pockets, with buttoned flaps; the back has a slit at the back; the shoulder has a shoulder strap with a rank insignia; the logo is attached to the top of the left sleeve; the bottom of both sleeves has a hem (general rank is shaped like a pine branch; colonel and lieutenant rank are shaped like a rice flower).

Leather belt. For generals, rear admirals, vice admirals, and Navy admirals, double-layer leather; for colonels and lieutenants, single-sided smooth leather; for Army and Border Guard, brown, for Air Defense - Air Force, and Navy, black. The belt buckle is made of gold-colored metal with an embossed five-pointed star inscribed in a circle.

Generals, rear admirals, vice admirals, and navy admirals wear leather shoes with plain toes and fixed laces; colonels wear shoes with horizontal stripes; lieutenants wear shoes with horizontal stripes and laces. Army, border guards, air defense - air force wear black shoes, navy wear white shoes.

Previously, the K08 uniform model used in the Vietnam People's Army was implemented according to Decree No. 82/2017 and Decree No. 61/2019. The uniform is used in ceremonies and events organized by the State, the Ministry of National Defense, and localities; conferences to celebrate achievements, Party congresses, congresses of mass organizations; receiving international delegations, Party and State leaders according to military protocol.

However, the Ministry of National Defense believes that the current model for male soldiers is not formal enough, and for women it is still restrictive and not suitable for the task.

To overcome this, the Ministry of National Defense has directed the design and testing of a new K24 uniform model. The new model retains the same color, ensuring the tradition of the army, facilitating procurement, production, and saving the budget.

According to the Ministry of National Defense, the initial cost of production and purchase of K24 uniforms for officers and professional soldiers in the entire army is about 1,800 billion VND. Of this, more than 320 billion VND has been allocated in the 2024 budget estimate for regular military uniforms. The total remaining budget for ensuring K24 uniforms for the 2024-2027 period is more than 1,480 billion VND.

Ensuring that the K24 uniform uses the regular state budget for national defense in 2024 and balances and ensures military uniform standards for soldiers within the regularly allocated annual budget. "Thus, the K24 uniform replacing the K08 does not affect the state budget," the Ministry of National Defense reported.
