Golden Globes 2025: "Emilia Perez" dominates with 10 nominations

In the newly announced list, "Emilia Pérez" has won 10 nominations for the 2025 Golden Globes, becoming the film with the most nominations this year.

Jacques Audiard's gripping drug cartel musical, which Netflix acquired at this year's Cannes Film Festival, has the most nominations of any feature film. "Emilia Perez" is nominated for Best Picture - Musical or Comedy, Best Director (for Audiard), Best Supporting Actress (for Zoe Saldana and Selena Gomez), Best Actress (for Karla Sofia Gascón), Best Screenplay, Best Original Score and more.

Not far behind "Emilia Perez" in nominations is Brady Corbet's "The Brutalist," a gripping A24 drama about the trial of a Hungarian architect under the control of a mysterious art patron. In addition to earning a nomination for best picture - drama, stars Adrien Brody and Felicity Jones both received acting nominations, and Guy Pearce was nominated for supporting actor. The project was also recognized in the score and screenplay categories. In total, "The Brutalist" has seven nominations, one more than another front-runner, Focus Features' "Conclave." Star Ralph Fiennes earned a nomination for best actor in a drama for his role as a priest. His co-star Isabella Rossellini received recognition for supporting actress, and the film also earned nominations for best score, screenplay and film.

Other notable films of the year that earned four or more Golden Globe nominations included "Anora," "Challengers," "A Real Pain," Universal's hit "Wicked" and Coralie Fargeat's "The Substance." "The Substance" was nominated for Best Motion Picture Musical or Comedy, Best Actress (for Demi Moore), Best Supporting Actress (for Margaret Qualley) and Best Director.

There were also a number of double nominations this year. Sebastian Stan was nominated for Best Actor in a Motion Picture in both the comedy/musical category (“A Different Man”) and the drama category (“The Apprentice”). Kate Winslet was nominated for Best Actress in a Motion Picture Drama for the biopic “Lee” and for her role in a limited series for HBO’s “The Regime.” Selena Gomez earned acting nominations for “Emilia Pérez” and for her role in a television series – musical or comedy for Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building.” Audiard of “Emilia Pérez” was nominated for directing, writing and for his contribution to the original song “El Mal.”

On the drama side, FX/Hulu's "The Bear" continues to dominate with the most nominations for any series, with five including best musical/comedy and acting nods (for Jeremy Allen White, Ayo Edebiri, Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Liza Cólon-Zayas).

"Only Murders in the Building" and "Shogun" each received four nominations. Newcomers "Baby Reindeer," "Disclaimer" and "Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story" each earned three nominations. Everyone was surprised when Netflix sensation "Squid Game" was nominated for best drama series, even though it won't debut on the streaming service until late December.

This is the second year that two new categories have been awarded at the Golden Globes. The first is for achievement in a stand-up comedy special, with nominees for 2025 including Jamie Foxx, Nikki Glaser, Seth Meyers, Adam Sandler, Ali Wong and Ramy Youssef. The second is for achievement in the global box office, with this year's competition being between "Wicked," "The Wild Robot," "Alien: Romulus," "Deadpool & Wolverine," "Gladiator II," "Twisters," "Inside Out 2" and "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice."
