Golf course development attracts high-end tourists

In an effort to attract tourists, especially high-end tourists, Quang Ninh has proactively innovated and improved the quality of products and services, focusing on completing golf course infrastructure and combining tours to meet the needs of this special tourist market.

Silk Path Dong Trieu Golf Course is designed with a high level of difficulty, increasing its appeal to golfers and tourists.

Opened at the beginning of this year, Silk Path Dong Trieu Golf Course is the first golf course in Dong Trieu City, the fourth golf course in Quang Ninh. Silk Path Dong Trieu Golf Course is planned and invested on an area of nearly 130 hectares, located in an area with poetic natural landscape. This place is a perfect combination of classy design, modern facilities and ideal geographical location with 27 holes according to international golf course criteria, serving about 800 guests/day. Of which, there are 18 PGA standard holes with diverse terrain, for major tournaments and 9 holes for beginners.

Although newly opened, the number of visitors to the course is quite stable, mainly international visitors and high-end domestic guests. Mr. Kobayashi Masayuki, General Manager of Silk Path Dong Trieu Golf Course, shared: In order to shape a high-quality product, in addition to ensuring the quality of the golf course's technical standards, we focus on providing a classy golf experience, combined with high-class amenities such as restaurants, resorts in harmony with natural space, meeting the needs of the market of customers with high to very high spending levels. Recently, our company and the American Professional Golf Association signed a cooperation agreement to improve the quality of professional golf training in Vietnam, aiming to attract organizations of the Southeast Asian, Asian and World Professional Golf Tournament System to organize in Quang Ninh.

Realizing the great potential of golf tourism, Quang Ninh has attracted investors to invest in golf courses associated with famous, high-class resorts. Golf courses have their own unique landscape advantages, creating novelty and unique experiences for tourists, making the journey to conquer golf courses in Quang Ninh more attractive. Mr. Pham Van Ly (Taiwanese tourist) shared: I have had the opportunity to play at most of the golf courses in Quang Ninh. Each course has its own design and advantages, such as FLC golf course has a very unique view of Ha Long Bay, Tuan Chau golf course is gentle and relatively flat, and Dong Trieu golf course has a high level of difficulty, requiring players to be in good health to conquer. Besides, what I am very satisfied with is the synchronous traffic infrastructure of Quang Ninh, helping tourists move quickly and experience many golf courses here.

According to Decision No. 80/QD-TTg (dated February 11, 2023) of the Prime Minister on approving the Planning of Quang Ninh province for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, the province is planned to have 22 golf courses. Quang Ninh currently has 4 standard golf courses: FLC Golf Course and Tuan Chau Golf Course (Ha Long City), Vinh Thuan Golf Course (Mong Cai City), Silk Path Dong Trieu Golf Course. In addition, Uong Bi City is also attracting investment in golf courses with an area of about 170-180 hectares with 36 holes to create diverse options for tourists.

Mr. Nguyen Ha Hai, Chairman of the Board of Directors of THK Travel Service Trading Joint Stock Company (THK Travel) , said: As a pioneer in developing golf tourism since mid-2020, the Company has designed many tours to high-standard golf courses in the province. Since the beginning of the year, the unit has welcomed about 30 golf groups from the Korean, Taiwanese, and Chinese markets to Quang Ninh for a period of 6-7 days, staying at luxury hotels and experiencing high-quality services. The price of each tour ranges from 20-25 million VND/person. The unit continues to negotiate and cooperate closely to welcome groups of guests from existing markets, while exploiting new markets such as Japan; effectively promoting charter flights via Van Don airport, the advantage of Ha Long - Mong Cai highway...; further promoting this high-paying customer stream.

Mr. Nguyen Huu Thuy, Vice President of Vietnam Golf Association, President of Quang Ninh Golf Association, shared: Unlike traditional tourists, golf tourists often come and return many times, in addition to the fee to play golf, they also pay for high-class hotel and restaurant services... Developing golf tourism not only helps diversify products, enhance tourism competitiveness but also attracts customers with high spending ability, long-term stays, stimulating the high-end resort segment. In the coming time, localities need to attract more investors in international standard golf course systems to attract customers and organize large-scale golf tournaments. To welcome the influx of luxury customers, units need to diversify services, improve the quality of facilities and human resources, and at the same time promote connections with golf courses, organizations, especially media units to attract golfers and tourists who are truly interested in this sport at home and abroad.
