In recent years, Thanh Hoa province has seen the emergence of many circular agricultural production models that do not generate waste. Initially, these models have brought positive results in terms of quality and economy, while also contributing to limiting the negative impacts of production on the environment.
Organic, circular, zero-waste agricultural production model in Dong Cuong ward (Thanh Hoa city).
In Dong Cuong ward (Thanh Hoa city), there are many farms and households that have done this model well, then instructed other households on how to do it. With an area of nearly 2,000m2, Mr. Do Dinh Hai's family in street 5 decided to invest in installing a greenhouse system and automatic irrigation to produce seasonal flowers, vegetables, tubers and fruits. With the guidance of the locality, he has taken advantage of agricultural waste such as expired food, tree roots, spoiled vegetables and fruits to compost with biological products and then fertilize the plants. Thanks to that, from 2018 to now, this model has helped Mr. Hai save a large amount of chemical fertilizers, reducing production costs by up to 60%. Thereby, creating quality, safe products that are chosen and trusted by consumers; at the same time, limiting waste and bad odors that affect the surrounding environment. In addition to “cleaning up” his farm, Mr. Hai also guides many other households on how to implement a zero-waste circular model with all his heart. He believes that “processing agricultural by-products is very difficult, but if you spend a little time researching, observing, loving plants, flowers and the environment, you can do it.”
As one of the households that the local authorities created conditions for to visit zero-waste circular agricultural models, Mr. Le Huu Chinh, Street 6, Dong Cuong Ward (Thanh Hoa City) said: "My family has raised wild chickens for nearly 10 years, accumulating a lot of waste and odors that affect the environment and surrounding villages. Therefore, right after visiting the models, I started applying biological products to decompose manure to immediately deodorize my farm; at the same time, I clean regularly and periodically every day".
Realizing the importance of environmental protection for the sustainable development of the locality and the quality of life of the people, the leaders of Dong Cuong ward (Thanh Hoa city) have strengthened propaganda and mobilized households about the benefits of the zero-waste circular model; organized for officials and people to visit the models, opened technical training courses. After application, many models have brought practical effects such as: minimizing waste to the environment, ensuring disease safety for livestock and crops; increased income... so they have been supported by people and proactively implemented right in their own families.
After many years of experimentation, Mr. Le Minh Toi's family in Thieu Duy commune (Thieu Hoa) has succeeded with an organic agricultural production model, circulating without waste. Initially, with the desire to reduce production costs, he used crop waste to burn for ash and poultry waste to fertilize plants. Later, he realized that this was the most optimal process, both generating less waste and bringing higher efficiency than the conventional method, so Mr. Toi learned from many other models to build a circular farm. When he started working, he used waste and waste from his own farm, used black soldier flies to create probiotics to water plants and mixed enzymes with vegetables and fruits to feed livestock and poultry. Thanks to that, the farm operates in a circular cycle, with no or very little waste, without using industrial feed and fertilizers. The farm's products are produced in a safe direction, bringing 20% higher value than traditional production. This is considered one of the typical safe agricultural production models of Thieu Hoa district.
Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Thieu Duy Commune (Thieu Hoa) Nguyen Khac Dung said: "Up to now, Thieu Duy Commune has about 600 hectares of agricultural land, so this model is very suitable. In the coming time, the Farmers' Association will coordinate with the commune to organize more training courses to introduce the circular agriculture trend, helping people understand and grasp the knowledge, thereby applying it to their model."
Currently, organic agricultural production and circular agriculture are inevitable trends in agriculture. The practical effectiveness of specific models has contributed to spreading this trend more and more widely, towards sustainable agricultural development and improving the quality of human life.
