Attending and speaking at the first international conference on rural tourism held at Vinpearl Resort & Golf Nam Hoi An (Thang Binh district, Quang Nam) this afternoon, December 10, Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long said that most countries in the world are very interested in investing in developing tourism in a green, friendly and sustainable direction.
In addition to many diverse forms and models of tourism such as cultural tourism, eco-tourism, resort tourism, discovery tourism, medical tourism, etc., rural tourism is becoming more and more popular and developed. Because developing rural tourism not only promotes economic transformation, reduces the development gap between rural and urban areas; but also promotes, honors, preserves, enriches, develops and spreads unique local values, contributing to promoting socio-economic development, bringing a better life to the people.
Therefore, the United Nations Tourism Organization (UN Tourism) Expanding the implementation of the Tourism Program for Rural Development to contribute to the protection of natural and cultural resources, community empowerment and job creation is a very meaningful program and consistent with the three pillars of sustainable development: economy, society and environment.
This is also consistent with Vietnam's development strategy and distinct potentials, competitive advantages, and outstanding opportunities with the orientation of rapid, sustainable development, green transformation, digital transformation, green economic development, digital economy, and circular economy.
“The Vietnamese Government has always paid attention to, issued and implemented many mechanisms and policies for rural agricultural development, and included rural tourism in major development programs. One of the important orientations is to “develop local specialties, craft villages, develop service economy, and rural tourism on the basis of preserving and promoting local culture” - Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long emphasized.
According to the Deputy Prime Minister, many localities in Vietnam have exploited their strengths well, developing a diverse system of rural tourism destinations with many high-quality, unique and attractive tourism products such as Lao Cai, Son La, Lai Chau, Ha Giang, Quang Nam, Thua Thien Hue, Dong Thap, Ben Tre, Can Tho and the Central Highlands provinces...
Among them, many tourist villages have been recognized according to ASEAN criteria such as Tan Hoa village (Quang Binh), Thai Hai (Thai Nguyen) and recently Tra Que vegetable village (Hoi An, Quang Nam) was honored by the United Nations Tourism Organization as the Best Tourist Village.
In recent times, Vietnam's tourism has received strong investment and development, making an increasingly large contribution to socio-economic development. In the first 11 months of 2024, Vietnam's tourism served more than 100 million domestic visitors and welcomed 15.8 million international visitors, an increase of 41% over the same period in 2023 and is aiming for the target of 18 million international visitors in 2024.
According to Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long, in order to continue to strongly promote tourism development in general and rural tourism in particular, a comprehensive approach is needed to ensure unity in awareness and action on sustainable rural tourism development. All development strategies need to focus on preserving natural resources, ecosystems and local cultural heritage, in parallel with economic development.
“Rural tourism development needs to be based on core issues, always putting the long-term interests of the local community first, providing authentic experience values for tourists; respecting and preserving the good, unique values of rural areas to spread and last forever” - Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long said.
At the same time, it is necessary to increase the exchange of experiences and share good models and good practices in rural tourism development. Meaningful events such as today's conference are a good opportunity for countries, organizations and individuals to share and learn from each other about policies, management mechanisms, solutions for applying technology, artificial intelligence, etc. to improve the effectiveness of rural tourism management and development.
Along with that, it is necessary to promote international cooperation and strengthen public-private partnerships in rural tourism development. In particular, it is necessary to establish and expand a network of connections between policy makers, businesses, financial institutions, investors and local communities.
“Vietnam is ready to continue to actively cooperate with the international community and the United Nations Tourism Organization to implement new initiatives and approaches to develop rural tourism under the motto “one village, one product”; “one person is a tourism ambassador”; “one locality - one unique tourism product”. Thereby, creating a solid foundation to make rural tourism a driving force for sustainable development for communities” - Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long pledged.
