Lao language radio fosters Vietnam - Laos friendship

The program "Vietnam - Laos Special Friendship Day 2023" is expected to continue to enhance the traditional friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos. The Foreign Affairs Department (VOV5), as a representative unit of the Voice of Vietnam, participated in the exhibition booth here.

In the program "Vietnam - Laos Special Friendship Festival 2023" with the theme "Information and Communication - a bright spot in the Vietnam - Laos cooperation relationship" at the Thua Thien Hue Provincial Cinema and Cultural Center, No. 41A Hung Vuong, Hue City, from November 11-15, the Foreign Affairs Department (VOV5), as a representative unit of the Voice of Vietnam, participated in the exhibition booth here. By participating in the festival for the first time, along with the 69-year history of broadcasting Lao language radio programs and the 78-year history of the Foreign Affairs Department, the Voice of Vietnam has been contributing to fostering the special friendship between Vietnam and Laos.

The program "Vietnam - Laos Special Friendship Festival 2023" is organized by the Ministry of Information and Communications of Vietnam and the People's Committee of Thua Thien Hue province. This is the largest media festival ever organized, with the participation of major press agencies of Vietnam and the provinces of Xalavan and Secong, two Lao localities twinned with Thua Thien Hue province of Vietnam. In addition to the booths of the Ministry of Information and Communications, Nhan Dan Newspaper, Voice of Vietnam, Vietnam News Agency, etc., there are also more than 50 other booths of information technology enterprises and enterprises in Hue participating in the Festival, with the desire to promote products to the Lao market.

The festival program also includes: Photo exhibition on the 61-year history of Vietnam - Laos friendly cooperation; Scientific seminar "Vietnam - Laos press and media cooperation: From information to knowledge" and "Vietnam - Laos art exchange night".

Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Thanh Lam said that the program "Vietnam - Laos Special Friendship Day 2023" is an activity to celebrate the 61st anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam - Laos diplomatic relations (1962-2023) and the 46th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation between the two countries (1977-2023). “Thua Thien Hue is a very progressive model in digital transformation and in changing the method from public administration management to social governance using digital technology. I really hope that on this occasion we will be able to do a lot of things, learn more about the models that localities are applying to social management and digital transformation. For example, cyberspace information management, digital transformation of the press and how to combine traditional and modern communication methods to increase efficiency. Within the framework of bilateral cooperation between Vietnam and Laos, this is also an opportunity for us to concretize part of the plan of the Declaration of the 2023 ASEAN Ministers of Information Meeting in Da Nang.”- Mr. Nguyen Thanh Lam said. The Foreign Affairs Department (VOV5) - Voice of Vietnam attended this event with extremely careful preparation and a unique identity that cannot be found anywhere else. Ms. Pho Cam Hoa, Head of the Foreign Affairs Department, said that the press booth will be the focus of the Fair - Exhibition, so the design and display are very important. VOV's leadership has directly assigned the task to VOV5 as well as the Lao Radio Program (ASEAN 1 Department - VOV5) to organize and implement preparations for the first event of the two countries' media. VOV5's leadership and ASEAN 1 Department - Lao Program determined that participating in this year's Festival is an opportunity to affirm the role and position of VOV in general and VOV5 in particular. Once again, VOV5's waves continue to extend the Vietnam-Laos friendship bridge.

69 years of cultivating the special friendship between Vietnam and Laos

On October 12, 1954, the Lao Radio Program was officially established, with only 3 people, both translators and announcers for a 30-minute daily program. Currently, the 7 members of the Program are all trained at the National University of Laos, many of whom graduated in journalism, have modern broadcasting skills, quickly access new technology, and meet the information needs of international radio listeners.

Generations of Lao Program staff and reporters

Continuing the tradition of the past 69 years, the staff and reporters of the Lao Radio Program are now increasingly dynamic and creative, maintaining the radio waves to serve the Lao public and listeners. The Lao Radio Program broadcasts 3 times a day on AM and FM. In addition to domestic and international news, there are also many columns introducing Vietnam, such as: "Vietnam, the country and its people", "Discovering Vietnam", "Village stories"... especially the columns "Listener letters", "Music programs on request", which are loved by Lao people. Since January 2012, along with other radio programs of the Foreign Affairs Department, the Lao radio program has been posted on the website vovworld.vn. Here, in addition to the continuously updated news and attractive columns, readers and listeners can also access vivid photo reports and video clips, introducing the landscapes and landscapes of the country and people of Vietnam in a realistic and colorful way. Through many generations, those who make Lao radio programs today always keep in mind the words of President Ho Chi Minh: "Vietnam and Laos are our two countries. The love is deeper than the Red River and Mekong River, continuing to make efforts to build the special friendship between Vietnam and Laos. Implementing the direction of the leaders of the Voice of Vietnam, the leaders of the Foreign Affairs Department, ASEAN 1 Department - Lao Language Program determined to participate in the "Vietnam - Laos Special Friendship Festival 2023" as an opportunity to continue to affirm the role and position of the Voice of Vietnam in general, the Foreign Affairs Department (VOV5) in particular, in foreign communication with the neighboring country.
