Promoting national soft power through public diplomacy

The conference was attended by about 200 delegates, including representatives of several ministries, departments, and agencies, along with ambassadors, heads of Vietnamese representative agencies abroad, and representatives of units within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In her opening speech, Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang affirmed that cultural diplomacy and foreign information is an important field of work not only for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs but also for ministries, departments, and agencies from the central to local levels.

"In the context of many changes in the world situation and the strong development of media, especially digital media, as well as the increasing demands of the country, promoting national soft power through implementing public diplomacy plays an extremely important role," Ms. Hang affirmed.

The Deputy Minister emphasized that over the past time, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Vietnamese representative agencies abroad have made efforts to overcome difficulties, strongly implementing cultural diplomacy and foreign information work, contributing to promoting and widely propagating about a dynamic Vietnam that is developing strongly, sustainably and stably, has a unique culture, is a reliable and responsible partner in the international community, contributing to enhancing the position and prestige of Vietnam.

Activities honoring President Ho Chi Minh abroad have contributed to widely promoting and honoring the qualities, character, ideals and noble values ​​of President Ho Chi Minh to international friends and the Vietnamese community abroad.

Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang said that the implementation of public diplomacy in recent times has had limitations, requiring closer support and coordination from relevant departments, ministries and sectors, and support in communication solutions, especially digital communication for Vietnamese representative agencies abroad; including the implementation of propaganda work at Vietnamese representative agencies abroad in strategies...

At the meeting, ambassadors and heads of Vietnamese representative agencies abroad shared many good experiences on how to implement public diplomacy in host countries, the difficulties and challenges facing representative agencies in implementing this work in the locality, and proposed specific recommendations to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and domestic agencies to support the implementation of cultural diplomacy and foreign information more effectively in the locality.

Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Thanh Lam analyzed current practices and trends in digital media and suggested ways to implement public diplomacy more effectively, including mobilizing and promoting resources among the people, especially personal accounts and media channels with a large number of followers.

General Director of National Assembly Television Le Quang Minh emphasized the need for a new approach to foreign information work, especially the need to set clear goals, specific targets and improve the quality of foreign communication platforms to be able to convey information to the public as quickly and effectively as possible.
