Information from the Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park Management Board said that 44 new caves have just been discovered in the Phong Nha – Ke Bang area (Quang Binh province). Initially, the research team approached, determined the coordinates and conducted a basic description of these caves.

Accordingly, the newly discovered caves are located in the Phong Nha - Ke Bang area in the communes of Dan Hoa, Hoa Son, Trung Hoa, Thuong Hoa (Minh Hoa district) with 33 caves, followed by Son Trach commune (Bo Trach district) with 9 caves and finally the communes of Truong Son, Truong Xuan (Quang Ninh district) with 2 caves.
Through a survey by the research team of Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park Management Board, 44 newly discovered caves are located in 6 different geological formations including: La Khe, Bac Son, Mu Gia, Cat Dang, Muc Bai, Le Ninh. Of which, most of the caves are concentrated mainly in the La Khe and Bac Son geological formations. These are the two formations that occupy the largest area and have ancient geological age in the Phong Nha – Ke Bang area.
The new caves are mostly distributed at altitudes ranging from 44m to 602m above sea level, in which the most common cave altitudes are from 200m to 350m. Stalactites in the newly discovered caves include 4 basic forms: roof and waterfall stalactites, scattered stalactites, stalactites created by water flow, and stalactites due to mineral accumulation.
With the addition of 44 new caves, up to now, researchers have recorded a total of 405 caves discovered in the Phong Nha - Ke Bang area.
