Nam B'Lang volcano in Dak Nong ranked as national monument

Nam B'Lang Volcano (also known as Chu R'luh Volcano), is located in Buon Choah and Nam Da communes. This volcano was formed in the final stage of geological development history - UNESCO Dak Nong Global Geopark (GGP). This is the only volcano in the Dak Nong Geopark area that creates a lava cave system, the largest and most unique in East Asia.

Welcome performance at the ceremony

According to surveys and research by scientists, the lava flows from the Nam B'Lang Volcano crater flow in all different directions (Northwest, Northeast, Southwest and Southeast).

To date, 4 cave systems have been discovered, including 50 caves with rich, diverse and beautiful distribution characteristics and cave formation mechanisms. Many caves are distributed in shallow layers, but many caves are also distributed in layers tens of meters deep.

Comrade Le Thi Truc Linh, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Dak Nong province, announced Decision No. 611, dated March 12, 2024 of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism ranking the Nam B'Lang Volcano landscape, Buon Choah commune and Nam Da commune, Krong No district, Dak Nong province as a National Monument.

Nam B'Lang volcano, located at an altitude of about 601m above sea level with a crater depth of about 59m. The long axis of the mountain is about 160m, the short axis is about 100m; the crater area is about 4ha, the volcano area is about 1.6km2 .

The Nam B'Lang Volcanic Area is located near the villages rich in cultural traditions of the M'nong and Ede ethnic groups... with festivals, traditional occupations and ranked historical and cultural relics and scenic spots, creating favorable conditions for connecting tours, tourist routes, exploiting and developing tourism in the future.

On March 12, 2024, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism issued Decision No. 611 ranking the Nam B'Lang Volcano Scenic Area, Buon Choah Commune and Nam Da Commune as National Monuments.

Comrade Ton Thi Ngoc Hanh, Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the Dak Nong Provincial People's Committee, requested the Party Committee, local government, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and related departments to step up propaganda work, pay attention to developing plans to manage, protect, use and promote the value of relics, scenic spots and heritages to join hands to protect and promote the values ​​of relics.

Speaking at the ceremony, comrade Ton Thi Ngoc Hanh, Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Vice Chairman of Dak Nong Provincial People's Committee affirmed that Nam B'Lang Volcano is a rare and special scenic spot, possessing both the natural beauty of nature and many historical, cultural and scientific values ​​(geology, geomorphology, etc.) typical of Dak Nong province.

Nam B'Lang Volcano Scenic Area, Buon Choah Commune and Nam Da Commune, being ranked as a national relic is an honor and pride for the people of all ethnic groups in Dak Nong Province. This is an opportunity to promote, publicize, honor and affirm the value of cultural heritage, geological heritage and scenic spots in the province.

To preserve and promote the value of Nam B'Lang Volcano Scenic Area in particular and Dak Nong UNESCO Global Geopark in general, comrade Ton Thi Ngoc Hanh suggested that local Party committees and authorities, together with the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and related sectors, pay attention to and develop plans to manage, protect, use and promote the value of relics, scenic spots and geological heritages in the area. Propaganda and promotion work to raise public awareness to join hands in protecting and promoting the values ​​of relics continues to be promoted.

The units continue to conduct in-depth research to clarify the layers of meaning, establish and fully evaluate the value of geological heritages in Dak Nong Geopark. Along with that, develop tourism programs to famous landscapes and other relics and landscapes in the area, creating a series of tourist destinations in the Dak Nong UNESCO Global Geopark and Dak Nong province.
