Ha Tinh farmers simultaneously go to the fields to sow spring rice

Farmers in Ha Tinh are busy planting spring rice in 2024. Every step is carefully and meticulously prepared by the people, bringing with it the belief of a successful crop.

This spring crop, the family of Ms. Nguyen Thi Hue, residing in Quy Vuong village, Yen Ho commune (Duc Tho) produced 15 sao of Bac Thinh rice and Nep 98. As it is the main crop season, every stage is carefully prepared by the family and the maximum number of human resources is mobilized to speed up the sowing progress, ensuring the crop schedule recommended by the industry.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hue (Yen Ho commune, Duc Tho) produces 15 sao of Bac Thinh rice and Nep 98.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hue shared: “We carefully prepared from the land preparation and seed selection stages. With 15 sao of rice fields, we directly sowed more than 4.5 tons of rice seeds. In parallel with sowing, I spread plastic bags all over the fields to limit damage by rats. The 2023 spring crop was successful, each sao yielded more than 3 quintals, fresh rice was sold at the field at a fairly high price, so people were very excited. This season, my family tried to take care of and prevent pests and diseases according to the recommendations of the industry, hoping for a bumper crop.”

Along with Yen Ho, farmers in communes and towns of Duc Tho district are also enthusiastically entering the main production season. This spring crop, the locality strives for a rice yield of 62 quintals/ha, with a rice output of 39,621 tons.

In the 2024 spring crop, Duc Tho district will restructure 8 main rice varieties.

Mr. Bui Khac Phong - Deputy Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Duc Tho district said: "In the 2024 spring crop, the locality strives to cultivate 6,387 hectares, of which high-quality rice accounts for over 90% of the total area. The district has selected a set of high-yield and good-quality varieties associated with concentrated production, land accumulation; production on large-scale fields, associated with product consumption linkage. Based on the variety approved by the province and actual production, in the 2024 spring crop, Duc Tho has structured 8 main varieties: Nep 98, Lai Thom 6, Bac Thinh, Ha Phat 3, MHC2, HD11, HaNa 7 and Huong Binh. In which, the structure of 1 variety does not exceed 30% of the cultivated area, each field is arranged to produce varieties with the same growth period.

Up to now, the locality has completed direct sowing of about 2,300 hectares and seedling establishment on an area of more than 60 hectares; striving to complete 100% of the area by January 25, 2024.

After sowing, farmers cover the rice fields with plastic to prevent rats from damaging them.

Huong Khe district is also focusing on planting 3,700 hectares of rice of various types with nearly 20 sets of short-term and long-term varieties.

Mr. Nguyen Tri Dong - Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Huong Khe district said: "From January 10, localities will start planting early rice crops and close the area with late rice crops on February 8, 2024. The district is coordinating with Nam Ha Tinh Irrigation Company Limited and directing communes to proactively deploy solutions to regulate irrigation water sources to ensure the spring crop production process goes smoothly."

According to the production project, in the spring of 2024, the whole province aims to cultivate 59,107 hectares of rice and strive for an output of 342,000 tons, with an expected yield of over 57.92 quintals/ha.

Spring rice production schedule from January 5, 2024 - February 8, 2024.

According to Mr. Phan Van Huan - Head of Cultivation Department, Ha Tinh Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection: Localities base on the growing time of each variety to direct farmers to plant seedlings within the time frame from January 5, 2024 to February 8, 2024. For areas with direct sowing practices, the direct sowing schedule follows the planting season. Within the same group of varieties, localities must consider the specific growing time of each variety to arrange appropriate sowing and planting. Specifically: varieties with longer growing time are arranged at the beginning of the time frame, varieties with shorter growing time are arranged at the end of the time frame.

In addition, localities also need to focus on directing the planting of seedlings with 100% plastic cover in accordance with technical procedures to prevent cold. Encourage planting young seedlings (3 leaves), applying the method of scooping seedlings, using transplanters in areas that have completed land conversion. For direct sowing areas, encourage sowing 5-10% more seedlings in the corner of the field covered with plastic for patching and prepare short-term rice seeds to prevent severe cold, damaging cold or localized flooding that causes rice death. At the same time, widely apply technical advances in cultivation, regulate irrigation water appropriately according to each growth stage of rice.
