The school yard no longer has the scene of people gathering in groups of three or five glued to their phones playing games like before, many students are excited to play childhood games with their friends again.

Students interact with each other more
Mr. Le Hai Nam - Vice Principal of Nguyen Canh Chan High School - said that almost all students in the school have smartphones. Besides the benefits in some subjects that require using phones to look up and refer to documents, using phones in school distracts students and changes the way students interact with each other.
"In the past, students talked to each other more, played more games and interacted directly. But since the introduction of phones, students interact less during recess. Therefore, we have implemented models and playgrounds with childhood games to rekindle interaction for students," said Mr. Nam.
To maintain this activity regularly, according to Mr. Nam, the school has introduced a system of weekly competitions to find champions for each subject in each grade and grade. This is also one of the criteria for evaluating conduct and encouraging competition points for students.
Pham Thi Thuy Dung, a student in class 11A6, said that at the beginning of the class, she and her friends handed their phones to the class monitor to put in the classroom locker. During recess, Dung and her group of friends only used their phones to surf social networks or play online games.
"Since the teachers organized folk games, I feel more comfortable and relaxed after stressful school hours," Dung excitedly said.
During recess, students of Huynh Thuc Khang High School, Vinh City play entertaining games.
Parental consent
Not only this school year but also in previous school years, many schools in Nghe An have implemented the 2020 circular of the Ministry of Education and Training with the content: "Students are not allowed to use mobile phones or other devices while studying in class that are not used for learning and are not permitted by teachers".
At Le Loi High School (Tan Ky district), in addition to providing each class with a phone case, the school also sets out many rules if students violate them.
Mr. Nguyen Van Thinh - the school principal - said: "In case of student violations, if the violation is serious, we will make a record to confiscate the phone and return it to the parents at the end of the year.
Otherwise, if any student violates the class rules, they will have their competition points deducted or be required to work to improve their awareness. Before issuing this regulation, the school held a meeting with parents and received more than 90% consensus.
Mr. Thinh gave an example of a recent 10th grade student using a phone during class without the consent of the subject teacher and had to write a self-criticism. After completing the labor and cleaning the school environment for violating the rules of using the phone for the wrong purpose, this student was given comments on training and wrote a commitment not to repeat the offense.
At Huynh Thuc Khang High School (Vinh City), homeroom teachers assigned class officers to remind students in the class before the first period to voluntarily return their phones to the class phone box or cabinet according to regulations. At the end of the class, the group leaders are responsible for returning the phones to the students in the class.
"The school has a 24/7 hotline for parents to contact when needed. In other urgent situations involving students, teachers and the school are responsible for calling parents.
We encourage people to stop using their phones to change their habits, thereby participating in practical activities, real-life exploration and outdoor experiences," said Mr. Dau Hoang Hung - Vice Principal of Huynh Thuc Khang High School.
Teachers set an example for students
Nghe An Department of Education and Training has launched the campaign "Nghe An students say no to phones during class". Accordingly, students use phones at the right time, in the right place, scientifically, and effectively utilize the digital environment. The campaign has the main goal: high school students do not use phones during regular classes, extra classes at school, and even during recess.
For the campaign to be successfully implemented in schools, Mr. Thai Van Thanh - Director of the Department of Education and Training of Nghe An - said that it depends largely on the determination of students to respond, that is, to overcome temptation and know how to use phones effectively.
During the implementation process, teachers also need to promote pioneering, exemplary, and serious use of phones at school to set an example for students.
More than 100 messages on the phone, how can I concentrate on studying?

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hang - a geography teacher at a high school in Vinh City - shared a story about when she returned her phone to a student after school, she saw more than 100 messages and notifications from different social networking groups.
"If during class, students only focus on reading messages and replying to their phones, they will not be able to concentrate on their studies. In my opinion, in the era of digital technology 4.0, we should not completely ban students from using phones, but there needs to be coordination between schools and parents to manage students' use of phones in a reasonable and effective way," Ms. Hang stated her opinion.
