Through the investigation, the defendants confessed that from 2021 until their arrest, they had sold a large quantity of fake drugs to the market, with an estimated illegal profit of nearly 200 billion VND.
Many tricks to produce and trade fake drugs
Regarding the method of producing fake drugs, the defendants rented warehouses in remote locations in An Giang, Ho Chi Minh City, and Hanoi; hired workers who were relatives or acquaintances.
Workers live in closed warehouses and do not interact with surrounding residents.
Regarding the method of selling fake drugs to the market, under the guise of being pharmacists selling drugs for pharmaceutical companies, the defendants used social networks Zalo and Facebook to advertise that they had genuine antibiotics from the company, "smuggled" from bidding sources, or sold out without being able to issue invoices, so they sold them cheaper than genuine products.
Regarding the "counterfeit" drugs of foreign origin, the defendants introduced them as "hand-carried" goods so there were no invoices or accompanying documents to gain the trust of buyers.
To create trust, the defendants bought real drugs and mixed them with fake drugs to sell on the market. When customers believed them, the group only sold fake drugs they produced themselves.
Thanh Hoa Provincial Police have initiated a case and prosecuted 14 defendants for "producing and trading in counterfeit disease prevention and treatment drugs".
