BTO-Most of the country is experiencing a severe heat wave along with increased demand for electricity, which is causing many difficulties in the electricity supply of Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN).
According to EVN, due to the impact of El Nino, the hot weather, drought, and water shortage have seriously affected hydroelectric reservoirs. The forecast of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said that the El Nino phenomenon has caused high temperatures and low rainfall. Currently, the water level in hydroelectric reservoirs across the country is mostly low, or below the dead water level, so the power supply is facing many difficulties, potentially affecting the security of power supply and serving people's needs.
According to the electricity industry, on May 6, although it was a weekend and right after the April 30 - May 1 holiday, the national power system load increased to a new record, reaching approximately 895 million kWh, the highest since the beginning of the year and an increase of 12.34% over the same period in May 2022. The maximum consumption capacity of 43,300 MW is also the highest since the beginning of the year and an increase of 9.12% over the same period in May last year...
Previously, EVN had issued a document reporting the critical situation of electricity supply, and at the same time proposed that the Ministry of Industry and Trade direct the implementation of many urgent solutions to overcome difficulties in electricity supply, not only for the hot season of 2023 but also for the coming years.
Locally, the weather is also in the summer season and continuously experiencing hot weather with the highest temperature, causing people's electricity demand to increase, leading to the potential risk of power grid incidents affecting production - business activities, consumption... Regarding electricity supply, at the end of March 2023, the Provincial People's Committee approved the 2023 Electricity Supply Plan for Binh Thuan Electricity Company to serve as a basis for directing and operating electricity supply to serve the socio-economic development goals this year in Binh Thuan.
The plan requires ensuring safe, continuous, stable and economical electricity supply to serve local socio-economic development, people's lives and activities, and the activities of agencies and businesses. Especially for priority and important electricity customers and major political and cultural events, activities of the National Tourism Year 2023 "Binh Thuan - Green Convergence" as well as holidays and Tet during the year... In case the power system operates normally, it must ensure sufficient electricity supply for socio-economic development and people's lives and not implement load reduction. In addition, the content of the local power supply plan this year also proactively plans for the following cases: The power system has an imbalance in supply and demand, the power system has an imbalance in supply and demand in the short term, or an imbalance in supply and demand in the long term...
With its responsibility, Binh Thuan Electricity Company has developed a power supply plan according to the load components in the whole province to proactively supply electricity. In addition, it has also promoted the establishment of a power supply plan suitable for difficult situations if they occur. In the context of general difficulties, the local electricity sector has always strived to ensure that the power system in the whole province operates safely, continuously and stably.
Binh Thuan Electricity Company said that in the past time, the unit has mobilized 100% of its staff, on duty 24/24 hours to be ready to handle electrical incidents as quickly as possible. However, with the current hot weather, it is forecasted that the demand for electricity will continue to increase and may last during the peak months from May to July 2023. Therefore, the local electricity industry hopes that people and customers will use electricity economically by taking practical actions, thereby contributing to reducing the pressure on electricity supply during the hot season, avoiding the case of an imbalance in supply and demand in the power system...
To cope with the difficulties in operating the power system during the hot season, the electricity industry recommends that people and customers join hands to practice saving electricity, especially during peak hours, and use electrical equipment with energy-saving labels. At the same time, pay attention to using air conditioning reasonably (preferably from 27 degrees Celsius or higher) and should not use many electrical equipment with high capacity at the same time...
