From the land of sunshine and wind to the national energy center

Breakthrough in energy industry development

With a favorable geographical location, large land fund, high solar radiation and stable wind speed all year round. From natural conditions with abundant sunshine and wind, seemingly harsh weather factors have become a golden advantage for the district to develop the clean energy industry. In recent years, the locality has fully exploited this potential, turning "challenges into opportunities" to develop solar power, wind power and thermal power, thereby shaping its position as one of the key energy centers of the country. In the period of 2016-2020, the district has made a strong breakthrough on the energy map with a series of large-scale projects being implemented. Although the development speed has slowed down recently due to the lack of synchronous transmission infrastructure, the completed projects still make a strong impression.

Up to now, the district has 4 thermal power plants with a total capacity of 4,244MW, 2 wind power projects (80MW) and 11 solar power plants (308MW) in operation. Notably, the district also has 1 onshore wind power plant (Vinh Hao 6.3) with a capacity of 70MW, 4 offshore wind power projects with a total capacity of up to 8,800MW, along with 17 solar power projects with a capacity of 1,800MW in the survey and investment research phase. However, the speed of energy development is also facing challenges in transmission infrastructure. Some wind power projects such as Phu Lac 2 (25.5MW) and Phong Dien 1 - Binh Thuan 2 (29.7MW) have completed technical infrastructure but cannot generate commercial electricity because they have not been connected to the national power system.

The industrial picture is improving.

In addition, the operation of Vinh Tan Multimodal Transport and Logistics Center (Binh Thuan Logistics Center) in conjunction with Vinh Tan International Port has opened up great opportunities for the energy industry and logistics services to develop strongly, creating a driving force for the district's economic development, contributing to job creation for local people. This is a strategic step to attract investors in the production of wind power equipment, supporting industries and deep processing, contributing to the completion of the local energy industry ecosystem.

Not only is Tuy Phong the “capital” of wind and solar power, it has also made positive changes in many other industries. The garment and mineral water production industries have developed steadily; mechanics and auto repair have made significant progress. The agricultural and aquatic product processing industry has flourished with the establishment of milling facilities, ice production, fish sauce, seaweed, etc. Products bearing the Tuy Phong brand such as Vinh Hao mineral water, industrial salt, seaweed, etc. are gradually asserting their position in the market. Some industry groups such as construction materials, garments, dried seafood, and wooden furniture continue to maintain stable output, contributing positively to the overall industrial structure.

The district has planned 1 industrial park (150ha) and 3 industrial clusters (60.56ha). Of which, Hoa Phu Seafood Processing Industrial Cluster has an infrastructure investor, Bac Tuy Phong and Nam Tuy Phong industrial clusters have 3 production facilities in operation. Notably, Tuy Phong is promoting the establishment of Vinh Tan Industrial Cluster to attract investment in wind power equipment manufacturing factories, in line with the development orientation of supporting industries in the energy sector in the district. In order to ensure sustainable development, the district leaders have focused on environmental protection, strengthened supervision of factory operations, especially ash and slag treatment at Vinh Tan Power Center. The infrastructure of the power transmission grid and power supply for daily life and production has also received investment and expansion.

With a convenient traffic location, abundant wind and sunlight resources, a modern seaport system and a hard-working workforce, Tuy Phong is meeting all the conditions for comprehensive industrial and service development. The establishment of the Binh Thuan Logistics Center in Vinh Tan along with energy projects is a “push” to help the local economy take off in the coming period.
