Strong shift in marine economy
Along with Phan Thiet City and La Gi Town, Tuy Phong is one of the three major fishing grounds of the province, with many marine species and specialties of high economic value. Thanks to the active implementation of policies and strategies for developing boats and investing in modern technical equipment and technology to serve offshore fishing, the number of large-capacity fishing vessels in the district has increased year by year. In 1983, the whole district had only 400 fishing vessels with a capacity of 56 CV, most of which were small-capacity vessels. Now, the number of vessels has increased to more than 2,000 with a total capacity of nearly 250 CV, of which 258 are vessels with a length of 15 m or more. In previous years, fishermen were only familiar with traditional small-scale, manual fishing, but recently, the large-capacity fleet has linked together into groups and teams at sea, invested in modern equipment and developed strongly, regularly sticking to the sea to go far away, protecting national sovereignty. In recent years, the fishing activities of fishermen have been favorable, the output has increased every year, so the marine industry here has always been focused on and continuously developed. The output of seafood exploitation in 2024 reached 55,450 tons, in the first quarter of 2025 it reached 14,920 tons/60,000 tons, reaching 24.87% of the assigned target and increasing by 128% compared to the same period in 2024.

The leaders of Tuy Phong District People's Committee acknowledged: In recent years, the local marine economic potential has been increasingly exploited, the lives of people in coastal areas have gradually stabilized and improved. The structure of the marine economy has shifted in a positive direction, some industries and fields have developed quite rapidly, especially tourism. Models of offshore seafood exploitation associated with processing, logistics services at sea and protection of the sovereignty of the sea and islands of the Fatherland are increasingly promoted and expanded. In particular, infrastructure in coastal and island areas has been gradually invested and upgraded, socio-economics, national defense and security have been developed relatively comprehensively.

Potential of sea tourism
In addition to owning the province's only international shipping port - Vinh Tan port, Tuy Phong also has two bustling fishing ports of Lien Huong and Phan Ri Cua, which are places for anchoring boats and trading seafood very bustlingly by local fishermen. In recent years, Tuy Phong district has made efforts to solve employment and provide vocational training for thousands of local workers. Vocational training for workers in coastal communes is mainly: Captains, chief engineers (grades 4, 5) and basic knowledge of maritime, hydrology, modern exploitation, etc. Thereby, contributing to improving knowledge, helping workers here have the opportunity to apply in practice exploitation, catching and processing seafood, contributing to increasing product value.

With the determination to develop the local economy more and more rapidly and sustainably, especially the potential of the marine economy, the leaders of Tuy Phong district are focusing on promoting the potential advantages in coastal areas, increasing investment attraction for projects. In particular, they will focus on exploiting the potential of marine tourism, encouraging investment in the field of seafood processing industry for export. Creating favorable conditions for fishermen to invest in developing large-capacity boats, exploiting offshore seafood, and equipping with modern techniques and technologies. At the same time, actively implementing solutions to restructure fishing boats in the direction of not building new small-capacity boats, fishing inshore, and types of occupations that affect aquatic resources.
From there, choose the right direction, promote the available potential advantages, gradually turn this sunny and windy land into not only the energy center of the province, but also the most bustling locality in terms of marine economy and marine tourism of Binh Thuan.
