The explosion at the hydroelectric dam on Lake Suviana, located between Bologna and Florence, has left at least three people dead, three seriously injured and four missing, said Marco Masinara, mayor of the town of Camugnano, on April 9. He added that the figures were being updated.

On social network X, the fire department said it had rescued three injured people from the factory and taken them to hospital, and was searching for those missing after the explosion in the early afternoon.
The cause of the explosion is not yet known. The dam is managed by the energy company Enel.
An Enel representative said a fire broke out in one of the transformers in the early afternoon. Workers were then evacuated from the scene. The company is coordinating with rescue workers from the fire department.
Mr. Masinara informed that the explosion occurred on the 9th floor of the hydroelectric power plant during the operation of the turbine. The dam operator said that the dam basin was not damaged and the plant was shut down at the time of the incident so the power supply was not affected.
Lake Suviana is located in a regional park in the Apennines at an altitude of just under 500 meters, formed after the construction of a dam in 1928 and 1932.
