Worthy of the name of the homeland
These days, all the streets of Kim Lien commune (Nam Dan) are filled with flags and banners celebrating the 134th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh's birthday and the Sen Village Festival in 2024. People from all over the country come here in a common joy, the joy of reunion in the homeland of beloved Uncle Ho, the Father of the nation.
Joining the bustling crowd, we returned to the Kim Lien commune, who were joyful and excited during the harvest season. Mr. Nguyen Xuan Phong (nearly 80 years old) in Lang Sen 2 hamlet happily said: “Thanks to favorable rain, wind and careful fertilization, this rice crop has a high yield, every field has a lot of grain, heavy cotton, providing enough food for every family. Agricultural production has made a big step forward compared to before, in Kim Lien commune now it is mainly done by mechanical machines, most of the farmers' labor has been liberated”.
According to Mr. Phong, like many other rural areas, not long ago, farmers in Kim Lien commune had a hard time with their crops, because from farming, sowing to harvesting, they had to rely on human strength and the plowing and pulling power of buffaloes and cows.
Nowadays, all these steps are done by machines, farmers just need to spread the rice out to dry in their yard. Sometimes, traders even come to buy it right in the field, farmers just need to bring the money home after harvesting...
Kim Lien commune currently has more than 3,000 households (about 13,400 people), the main source of income is agriculture (about 75% of households). Besides rice production, farmers have also built many effective economic models.
These include the model of vegetable production in greenhouses in Sen 1 hamlet; flower growing combined with sightseeing and photography in Lien Mau 3 hamlet; black apple snail farming in Hong Son hamlet, Lien Mau 1. In particular, the commune has directed the planting of lotus on pond areas in Lang Sen, Lien Hong, Mau Tai, Hoang Tru hamlets and some 2-rice land areas along National Highway 46, Provincial Road 540, Mang Tang lake in Hong Son hamlet.
Thanks to that, the whole commune now has more than 20 hectares of lotus, which not only brings economic efficiency but also creates a landscape, contributing to attracting tourists. This season, coming to Kim Lien, you can see lotus ponds competing to show off their pink color, spreading their elegant fragrance, making everyone feel comfortable and pleasant.
Going through all 12 hamlets of Kim Lien commune, we felt the resilience and change of the countryside through each flat asphalt road and the spacious houses built close together. At the same time, we also gathered more information and figures that spoke volumes: Kim Lien is a commune that has met the model new rural standards since 2022, so the infrastructure has reached the level of completion.
Not only the roads but also the schools, medical stations and national power grids are built spaciously and according to standards. Currently, 5 schools in the commune have been recognized as meeting national standards, of which 4/5 schools meet national standards level 2. Every year, the whole commune has about 100 students passing the entrance exams to universities and colleges nationwide; the commune is the leading commune in the district in both key quality and general quality...
Thanks to the attention of all levels in investing in infrastructure construction, implementing socio-economic development policies and the efforts of the Party Committee, government and people of the whole commune, in recent years, Kim Lien commune has made great strides. The economic growth rate reached 9.1%; the average income reached 61 million VND/person/year; the poverty rate was only 0.57%. That is the driving force for cadres and people to continue to strive, to forever be worthy of being the homeland of beloved Uncle Ho.

Joy of returning home
As May comes, the Vietnamese people miss Uncle Ho even more, many people have made a pilgrimage to Kim Lien to offer him fresh flowers. Setting foot on his hometown, everyone was moved by the simple scenery associated with his family and childhood life. Each person had their own feelings, but the meeting was a sense of pride in their "common hometown" and a heart of gratitude and infinite love for President Ho Chi Minh.
Coming from Hanoi, Ms. Nguyen Thi Loan shared: “This time, I and my friends in the retirement group visited Uncle Ho's hometown on the occasion of his birthday. When arriving at Kim Lien, the fatigue from the long journey seemed to disappear, leaving only joy. Because this place has changed a lot compared to 7 years ago, when I first visited. Looking at the straight roads shaded by trees, the golden ripe rice fields and feeling the warm and full life of the countryside here…”.
Nguyen Chi Thanh traveled thousands of kilometers from Binh Duong to Nghe An to join the crowd visiting Uncle Ho's hometown. He remembered that when he was young, he followed his parents here to visit Uncle Ho's paternal and maternal hometowns.
In the memory of the young man from the Southern land, the Kim Lien Relic Site was quite simple in the past, the life of the Kim Lien people was still difficult with small houses and bumpy roads. This time coming back, Mr. Thanh was extremely surprised by the changes in the Kim Lien countryside, especially the life of the people of Uncle Ho's hometown.
Through the media, I know that Nghe An province in general and Kim Lien commune in particular have made many changes, but I really did not expect such a rapid development speed. Sitting on the speeding car, looking at the solid and spacious constructions, my heart was filled with emotion.

Mr. Nguyen Chi Thanh - Tourist from Binh Duong province
At the Kim Lien National Special Relic Site, we met a special guest, Mr. Aiden Jade Smith, a young man from the distant country of South Africa. According to Aiden Jade Smith, he has known President Ho Chi Minh since he was a child, and his teachers and parents told him many stories about the great leader of Vietnam and the brave spirit of this country.
Everyone says that Ho Chi Minh's hometown is Nam Dan (Nghe An), a poor countryside in Central Vietnam. Nam Dan appears in the minds of him and his peers as a poor land, people live in temporary houses and have many difficulties in making a living.
When he had the opportunity to visit Vietnam, Aiden Jade Smith immediately arranged his work to go to Nghe An, to Nam Dan to visit the Kim Lien Relic Site. On the way, he was extremely surprised by the wide roads, long lines of cars; the rice fields full of flowers and seeds; the rows of spacious houses on both sides of the road; the green, prosperous countryside.
Aiden Jade Smith shared: “There is a huge difference between what I heard and what I saw. It is not that my teachers or parents were wrong, but that the people here have done a miracle in changing life in President Ho Chi Minh’s homeland.”
People continue to make pilgrimages to Uncle Ho's hometown. They come here to participate in the activities of the Sen Village Festival, to offer him songs, lyrics, and their love and undying faith...
