For over 16 years, Duong Bich Ngoc and her daughter have been going to the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion every month for blood transfusions to treat thalassemia. Ngoc shared: "Thlassemia makes us sick and requires regular blood transfusions for life. Without donated blood, we would not have a chance to live. It is those drops of blood that have saved our lives and painted a future for us."

Ms. Ngoc said that a decade ago, waiting for blood transfusions was a regular occurrence, especially during holidays or summer vacations. Now, with the widespread blood donation movement and support from many people, patients no longer have to wait. Receiving timely blood transfusions helps us stabilize our health and maintain our daily work and activities.
According to Hoang Van Tinh, a patient who has been treated for bone marrow failure since 2019: "For the past 16 years, my life has been based on donated blood due to a disease that prevents my body from producing blood. Every month, I receive a blood transfusion of 3 liters. I am extremely grateful to the volunteers who donated blood and helped us patients."

Following previous years, the 17th Red Sunday blood donation program continues to be implemented with the expectation of attracting tens of thousands of voluntary blood donors. This program is chaired by Tien Phong Newspaper, in coordination with the National Traffic Safety Committee, the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion, the Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation, the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union of provinces and cities and a number of organizations nationwide.
From a small blood donation festival in 2009, Red Sunday has now grown to a large scale, collecting an average of more than 55 thousand units of donated blood each year.
Journalist Phung Cong Suong, Editor-in-Chief of Tien Phong Newspaper, Head of the Organizing Committee of Red Sunday 2025 affirmed: "The greatest achievement after 16 years of organizing Red Sunday is that it has contributed greatly to changing people's awareness, especially young people, about donating blood to save lives. From changing awareness leads to changing behavior, changing actions and until now everyone realizes that donating blood is worth doing and very meaningful, becoming a normal thing, doing good for themselves, for their families and for society. Since then, many young people, many groups have organized blood donation meetings, many organizations of the Youth Union have established clubs, blood donation teams on a regular basis, regardless of time, any circumstance, they can donate their blood to patients in need of blood".
According to Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Ha Thanh, Director of the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion, "Thanks to the persistence of 16 Red Sundays, the voluntary blood donation movement nationwide has become more and more influential, calling on all classes of people to participate, the blood shortage during Tet is no longer as alarming as before. Taking place in the middle of cold winter days, but the Red Sunday festivals have never been deserted, all participants join together to create an enthusiastic atmosphere, coming to exchange human warmth, giving gifts of life to countless lives."
"Over the past 16 years, the National Traffic Safety Committee has accompanied Tien Phong Newspaper to develop and implement this program. We are very grateful for the contributions and the widespread effectiveness of the program, which has helped change the awareness of young people a lot. Every year, 55,000 units of blood collected from the program have contributed to saving many lives, including many traffic accident victims," emphasized Mr. Le Kim Thanh, Vice Chairman of the National Traffic Safety Committee.
