Tourists who are familiar with the image of rolling tea hills, one after another seemingly endlessly in the Northern midlands such as Long Coc (Phu Tho), Tan Cuong (Thai Nguyen) or in the highlands such as Bao Loc (Lam Dong), Moc Chau (Son La) will surely find the tea oases in Thanh Chuong district, Nghe An province strange. These "tea islands" are like a natural picture that soothes the souls of travelers when they come to the sunny and windy Central region. On the Ho Chi Minh road passing through Nghe An province, to Thanh An commune, Thanh Chuong district, just turn about 200m following the signs and visitors will reach Cau Cau tea island area. This is the name given by the locals because the dam system of Cau Cau Lake surrounds the tea islands here. Since the late 1960s, people in Thanh An commune and other communes in the region have built dams to retain water from mountain streams to irrigate agriculture. The water rose, many hills became islands. Implementing the local agricultural development policy and changing the crop structure, taking tea as the main crop, many households have attached themselves to the "tea growing industry". Thanh An people have worked hard to grow lush tea trees, covering the barren hills and the name “tea island” has gradually become popular. The total area of water surface and about 50 tea islands here is estimated at 83 hectares. The perennial tea trees are planted in regular rows and pruned to always be at body height, sprouting young green leaves, reflecting on the shimmering water surface. The most impressive thing is at dawn when the dew still lingers on the leaves, the peaceful space becomes even more romantic with the gentle scent of tea wafting in the wind. That space and scenery are becoming more and more known, the name "Thanh Chuong tea hill" has appeared on the tourist map of Nghe An. In recent years, tourists to Nghe An, in addition to Cua Lo beach or Quynh Bang beach and historical sites, also visit Thanh Chuong tea hill to have new travel experiences. In particular, tea island tourism can be done in all 4 seasons because the temperature here is not harsh when winter comes or summer comes. Source
