Speeding up progress, runway ready to reach the finish line

The time to complete the runway of Long Thanh airport is now only counted in days. According to the adjusted plan, this item will be put into technical operation before April 30, 3 months earlier than the original plan.

At the construction site, thousands of workers were divided into many groups, simultaneously performing the final tasks such as paving asphalt, painting lines, and connecting the electrical system for flight operations. Other groups focused on completing the taxiways and aprons.

The technical team is also urgently installing the precision landing system (ILS) and runway signal lights, key items to ensure flight safety in all weather conditions.

Mr. Nguyen Van Hung, a young engineer, shared: “This stage is very urgent, we work under the scorching sun of nearly 40 degrees during the day, and even when it rains at night, we still try to install the equipment. Everyone is trying their best to keep up with the schedule.”

Worker Hoang Van An also said: “At this time, I work in continuous shifts, the job requires absolute precision. There are days when I get home and fall asleep, not having time to call my family.”

According to Mr. Le Van Tien - Representative of ACC contractor, the runway section of package 4.6 is more than 90% complete, the entire package is about 76%. "We are doing our best to bring the runway to the finish line on time, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South," Mr. Tien emphasized.

13,000 construction workers, a series of projects ahead of schedule

The Long Thanh Airport Project Management Board said that many items are currently entering the final stage. The runway, taxiway and apron areas alone mobilize more than 2,300 workers, working according to the "3 shifts, 4 shifts" model.

Phó giám đốc thường trực Ban QLDA Long Thành (ACV) cho biết, dịp 30/4 đường cất hạ cánh sẽ về đích, vượt tiến độ 3 tháng.

The permanent deputy director of the Long Thanh Project Management Board (ACV) said that the runway will be completed by April 30, 3 months ahead of schedule.

The internal port traffic system connecting to the T1 route (nearly 8 km) has reached more than 90% of the volume. Contractors are rushing to lay asphalt, plant trees and install lighting, with technical traffic expected to open on April 30.

The air traffic control tower has completed its reinforced concrete structure and is installing equipment. The project will be put into trial operation from June 30 and officially put into operation at the end of 2025.

The airport connection route currently has nearly 1,000 workers working on it. The two main routes are expected to be completed in early September 2025, three months ahead of schedule. Route T2 has reached more than 65% progress and will be completed at the same time.

The passenger terminal, the “heart” of Long Thanh airport, currently has nearly 4,300 employees and more than 1,000 pieces of equipment operating continuously. The steel structure of the terminal wing is 100% complete, while the central area is about 70%. Technical systems such as water supply, air conditioning, and fire prevention and fighting are also being deployed synchronously.

Hiện nay gói thầu 4.6 đã đạt khoảng 76%, riêng đường cất hạ cánh đạt trên 90%, cơ bản hoàn thiện.

Currently, package 4.6 has reached about 76%, of which the runway alone has reached over 90%, basically completed.

In particular, the construction unit is focusing on the glass wall facade imitating lotus petals - a complex technical part, requiring high precision and aesthetics. The steel structure supporting the glass in the terminal wing area is nearly 50% completed, the central area is about 6%.

Glass installer Tran Minh Hoang shared: “Each glass panel is very large and heavy, requiring a specialized crane. Strong winds and rains affect progress, but everyone works hard to complete the project on schedule.”

Up to now, the Long Thanh airport project is mobilizing nearly 13,000 workers, divided into hundreds of construction teams. The passenger terminal has completed the underground part and the 4-storey structure, and is currently continuing to install the roof structure, glass and interior equipment.

Auxiliary items such as parking garages, fuel supply systems, and internal port traffic are also being accelerated. The goal is that by the end of 2025, all major items will be basically completed, ready for phase 1 of Long Thanh airport to be put into operation on schedule assigned by the Government.
