Travel + Leisure magazine (USA) has just voted Nha Trang city as one of the 8 most beautiful beach resorts in the world for retirees.

The article introduces Nha Trang as a city with beautiful beaches and a large expat community, warm climate. High quality health care is provided at several local hospitals.

Nha Trang is also a walkable city with reliable public transportation, vibrant nightlife, delicious cuisine and plenty of entertainment opportunities...

Nha Trang has many amenities for retirees.

Champa Island Nha Trang representative said that the number of middle-aged and elderly guests is relatively low compared to the younger group. Vietnamese guests often go in family groups, while international guests include groups from China, Korea, etc.

"Older guests tend to stay on site and use the surrounding facilities at the resort. They often do not book rooms directly, but through their children or travel agencies. The resort has separate, quiet apartments, so older guests really like them," said a representative of Champa Island Nha Trang.

Ms. Le Ngoc Xuan (61 years old, a tourist from Hanoi) shared: "My daughter booked my husband and I a hotel room in Nha Trang. The hotel is near the beach so we can walk, go swimming in the morning or afternoon, exercise, that's fun. In addition, the hotel also has two buffets for breakfast and dinner, we don't have to worry too much about choosing a place to eat."

Mr. Tran Minh Duc - Chairman of Khanh Hoa Tourism Association - said that retired and elderly tourists often choose to visit peaceful places with open spaces such as old towns, countryside, islands, etc. Spiritual tours, pilgrimage tours, and tours with health care services such as mineral mud, hot springs, massages, etc. are also chosen by this group of tourists.

"However, older and retired tourists are prone to health and psychological problems, especially the elderly, and have difficulty moving. Therefore, the tour design does not need too many destinations, but must be leisurely, with longer visiting time at tourist attractions. In particular, the menu in each meal ensures nutrition and is easy to digest, and the rooms are arranged on low floors, easy to move around... creating comfort," Mr. Duc shared.

Exploiting the potential of medical tourism

According to travel companies, medical tourism is of great interest to retired and elderly customers. In Khanh Hoa, there are already types of tourism combined with health care such as resort combined with acupuncture, spa acupressure, dental tourism... but these activities are still small.

Other countries such as Thailand, Australia... have developed medical tourism very systematically. In addition to the hospital system and modern medical facilities, there are also tours to visit herbal gardens, buy herbs...

Khanh Hoa has the advantage of natural forest system, especially the potential of mineral mud to develop medical tourism. Some resorts have deployed medicinal mud baths, stone foot massages...

Mr. Trinh Ngoc Hiep - Deputy Director of Khanh Hoa Department of Health - said that the province's health development orientation to 2030 and vision to 2045, the department builds and calls for international cooperation in various fields, including the development of a tourism model combined with medical examination and treatment.

"In Nha Trang, there are many hospitals and service clinics. However, medical tourism is just an initial orientation, there are still no specific and clear regulations. Currently, travel companies or tourists simply go to medical facilities for medical examination and treatment, or use medical service packages such as cosmetic surgery, reproductive health...", Mr. Hiep commented.

According to Mr. Hiep, in order for medical tourism to be truly professional and systematic, it is necessary to improve the quality of the medical staff. In addition to good expertise, this human resource can also communicate in foreign languages to serve tourists.

In addition, the treatment room must truly be a resort with clear equipment, standards, and accompanying medical amenities... In particular, according to him, there needs to be a connection between the hospital and travel companies to design and provide attractive medical tourism products.
