Vietnamese people still spend a lot on tourism

Người Lao ĐộngNgười Lao Động05/12/2024

(NLDO) - Contrary to predictions that Vietnamese people are tightening their spending, some new studies show that tourists are still spending a lot on trips...

According to a report by research firm Cimigo, Vietnamese consumers tend to spend more sparingly due to concerns about family finances. Consumers are minimizing unnecessary spending, delaying or cutting down on large expenses, focusing on buying products and services that are truly needed.

On the other hand, research by digital travel platform Agoda released on December 5 shows that travel is still a hobby of many Vietnamese families. Statistics show that up to 90% of Vietnamese tourists have planned their travel budget for 2025 at the same or higher level than last year. Of which, 29% plan to increase their budget, 61% will maintain the same spending level as in 2024 to explore interesting journeys...

Agoda's survey found that only about 14% of people will reduce the number of times they travel in the next year...

Agoda data also revealed that 86% plan to maintain or increase the number of trips compared to 2024; only 14% will reduce the number of trips next year. Nearly 40% of Vietnamese travelers surveyed plan to conquer foreign destinations next year. Agoda conducted a survey of 1,081 people from 11 different markets in October 2024, including Vietnam.

Research from Cimigo shows that Vietnamese travelers prioritize cost-saving options, especially when choosing accommodation for their trip. Specifically, 55% of travelers said that the top factor influencing their travel decision was their travel budget; 64% of survey respondents said that the total cost of a one-night stay they were willing to pay was less than VND6,347 million (about USD250).

Research shows that travelers will still spend big on trips and explore new experiences in 2025.

A recently released study of Booking.com's annual Travel Trend Predictions for 2025 revealed quite surprising information: instead of saving money, families are tending to use "inheritance money from children and grandchildren" to enjoy life with family members.

Up to 44% of Vietnamese travelers said they were willing to spend money on a memorable trip in 2025 instead of keeping the money as part of their inheritance later - this trend is especially strong among Baby Boomers (those born between 1946 and 1964).

"Older generations are willing to pay for memorable family experiences and help the younger generation overcome the cost of living crisis by helping to pay for vacations. Data shows that 74% of Vietnamese travelers said their parents paid for all or part of their vacations even when they were adults," said a representative of Booking.com.

The survey was conducted by Booking.com with more than 27,000 travelers from 33 countries and territories, including Vietnam, from which 9 new travel trend predictions were made in 2025.
