Up to now, OCOP products are still strongly exploited in the domestic market, creating momentum for products to promote their strengths and motivate manufacturers. Especially, during holidays and Tet, this product line is focused on bringing to domestic consumers.
Up to now, many OCOP products of the provinces have been trusted and chosen by consumers to use and give as gifts during the Lunar New Year because they ensure food hygiene and safety, have clear origin, and beautiful designs. The Lunar New Year has become the most important season of the year for many OCOP entities.
According to Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Anh Tung, CEO of UFO Technology and Trading Company Limited (Foodmap) - an agricultural product distributor, he also noticed that in the past two years, consumers have increasingly accepted Vietnamese specialty agricultural products. This is thanks to the quality of goods, their uniqueness, support from transportation as well as the encouragement of the spirit of consuming domestic products.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Thy, Director of Bac My Thuan Production, Trading and Service Company Limited (Tien Giang) shared that currently, Bac My Thuan Company is also focusing on domestic OCOP orders, especially the customer segment that prefers Southern dried fruits. The company has also proactively sought customers in all three regions and stabilized the source of raw materials since the beginning of the year. Exploiting the domestic market with customers who share the same culture and demand for clean products brings better sales, while product transportation and warranty are also more convenient.
Not only enterprises, collective economic units and cooperatives have not focused on the domestic market during the Lunar New Year holiday. Accordingly, localities such as Ca Mau, Bac Lieu, Dong Thap, An Giang have many OCOP product lines typical of the river region to supply people nationwide for Tet. Ms. Tran Thi Xa, Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of Dam Doi Ba Khia Cooperative, Ca Mau, said that the cooperative has 5 OCOP products; of which, there is 1 salted Ba Khia fish sauce product that has achieved 3-star OCOP and 4 products have just been upgraded to meet 4-star OCOP standards, including: salted Ba Khia, pre-mixed Ba Khia, Ba Khia sour soup and sweet and sour shrimp paste. Thanks to the promotion, advertising and improvement of product quality, orders on Tet holiday increased 4 times compared to normal days, this is a good sign. In addition to focusing on producing orders to serve the Tet market, the cooperative also focuses on designing OCOP product gift baskets with eye-catching designs to facilitate customers to give gifts during the upcoming Tet holiday.
Mr. Nguyen Hoang An, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Cai Bat Aquaculture Processing and Trading Cooperative, Cai Nuoc District, Ca Mau, said that Cai Bat Cooperative also prepared 4-star OCOP tiger shrimp products, fish cakes, shrimp crackers, dried shrimp and live crabs that achieved 3-star OCOP to supply to consumers during Tet, as gifts for relatives and customers. To meet the consumption needs of customers during the upcoming Tet holiday, Cai Bat Cooperative has focused on production. The products are always guaranteed to be safe for food hygiene, carefully packaged, beautifully labeled and ready to serve consumers.
Although local OCOP products have become familiar to consumers through many e-commerce channels and agricultural fairs, to create market sustainability and consumer trust, production units also need a connection to have specific information on the needs of domestic consumers.
According to Mr. Tran Thanh Nam, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, in order to ensure the quality of OCOP products supplied to the domestic market, localities must coordinate with neighboring provinces to inspect the supply chain, especially for products produced outside the province or city, and strengthen coordination between the Department of Quality, Processing and Market Development and the Department of Industry and Trade in evaluating, classifying and re-certifying expired OCOP products, creating solid trust for domestic consumers. Typically, many localities have now linked and cooperated with each other in the production and consumption chain of OCOP products such as Tay Ninh, Tien Giang, Long An, or Can Tho, Kon Tum, Ca Mau, etc.
Accordingly, in 2025, with the joint efforts of all three provinces, Tay Ninh, Long An and Tien Giang, aiming at export as well as promoting border economic activities, in order to better support businesses in consuming goods through border gates; including large border gates in Long An and Tay Ninh, so that local border economic activities will increasingly develop and become more prominent, said Mr. Huynh Van Quang Hung, Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Long An.
In addition to cooperation between provinces, localities have also linked consumption with the economic center of the Southern region - Ho Chi Minh City. OCOP products are increasingly appearing in retail systems, supermarkets and commercial centers in Ho Chi Minh City. Mr. Dau Nhu Anh, Director of purchasing fruit products of Bach Hoa Xanh chain, said that this year, this supermarket system continues to "introduce" many regional specialty fruit products packaged into gift boxes for giving as gifts. These include Cao Lanh mango, green-skin pomelo, orange-leaf pomelo (Dong Nai), Lam Dong booth avocado or strawberry coconut, Siamese coconut, pineapple coconut from Ben Tre... Putting specialty agricultural products in gift baskets is expected to both boost agricultural output and promote Vietnamese products to a large number of consumers across the country during the 2025 Lunar New Year.
