At the age of 90 with 70 years of Party membership, Mr. Nguyen Tien Nghiem (residing in Thien Cam town, Cam Xuyen, Ha Tinh) is a shining example of lifelong struggle, trust and wholeheartedly following the Party.
This spring, the joy of Mr. Nguyen Tien Nghiem in Tan Phu residential group, Thien Cam town (Cam Xuyen, Ha Tinh) was multiplied when he celebrated his 90th birthday and was honored to receive the 70-year Party membership badge. Holding the noble award of the Party, Mr. Nghiem could not hide his emotions. The emotions when he took the oath under the Party flag 70 years ago suddenly came back vividly and truly.
Mr. Nguyen Tien Nghiem
“At that time, Cam Nhuong commune was severely attacked by the French colonialists, so my family and I evacuated to Cam Son commune and participated in activities in the commune's farmers' association. On October 15, 1954, I was honored to be admitted to the Party by the Party Committee. The admission ceremony was very simple, but the atmosphere at that time was very sacred, and I was extremely moved and proud. On that important day, I swore under the Party flag to follow the revolution for the rest of my life, and that became my reason for living, my belief, and my source of motivation, giving me strength to practice and strive for the Party's noble goals and ideals for the rest of my life,” Mr. Nguyen Tien Nghiem confided.

In 1957, when the war against the French ended, Mr. Nghiem returned to Cam Nhuong commune to contribute to building his hometown. In 1963, he was elected to the Executive Committee of the Cam Nhuong commune Party Committee and was promoted to become Secretary of the Phuc Hai village Party Cell. This was an all-Catholic village, and the Party Cell at that time had only 2 Party members. During his 3 years as Secretary of the Phuc Hai village Party Cell, Mr. Nguyen Tien Nghiem had many solutions to revive fishing activities at sea, working with local people to improve their lives day by day.
With his capacity and prestige, in 1966, Mr. Nguyen Tien Nghiem was elected as Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Committee of Cam Nhuong Commune. In 1972, he was appointed as Deputy Head of the Propaganda Department of the Cam Xuyen District Party Committee. In 1978, fishing activities in Cam Nhuong encountered many difficulties, the authorities and people of the commune continued to propose that Mr. Nguyen Tien Nghiem return to work as Secretary of the Party Committee to help the locality develop the fishing industry.
Mr. Nguyen Tien Nghiem was awarded many noble medals and commemorative medals.
Mr. Nguyen Tien Nghiem shared: “When I first came back, I realized that it was ineffective to summarize and settle the output and provide necessities and fishing gear to households going to sea once every 6 months. Therefore, I proposed a solution to calculate and exchange food, fuel, and fishing gear for each trip. This method was highly supported by the people, but at that time it was strongly opposed by the leaders of the province's fisheries sector. In order to implement it, I made a commitment to my superiors. After 6 months, the results were positive, the deadlock was resolved, and the people received investment and loans from the State to develop the fisheries industry.”
The success helped Cam Nhuong commune "revive" the fishing industry, the method of calculating the contract that Mr. Nguyen Tien Nghiem proposed was also studied by the province and replicated in many other localities, contributing to the development of the sea exploitation and fishing industry in Ha Tinh. In 1982, Mr. Nguyen Tien Nghiem was appointed as Head of the Organization Committee of Cam Xuyen District Party Committee; then Vice Chairman of Cam Xuyen District People's Committee. In 1991, when Nghe Tinh province was divided into 2 provinces: Nghe An and Ha Tinh, Mr. Nghiem retired according to the regime.

For his contributions during his work, Mr. Nguyen Tien Nghiem was awarded the First Class Resistance Medal by President Truong Chinh. He also received a commemorative medal for his Party inspection career, a commemorative medal for his Party organization and building career, and a commemorative medal for the Vietnamese peasant class.
Returning to his hometown, Mr. Nguyen Tien Nghiem continued to enthusiastically participate in the labor production movement. He was the "initiator" of shrimp farming, crab farming, and fish sauce processing models in Thien Cam town for people to learn and replicate. Currently, despite his old age and poor health, he is still exemplary, leading in movements; always demonstrating the qualities of a Communist Party member, exemplary, responsible, and dedicated to serving the Party, the Fatherland, and the People.
Mr. Nguyen Tien Nghiem is the only Party member in the area to receive the 70-year Party membership badge this time. This is not only an honor for him and his family, but also a source of pride for local cadres, Party members and people. We sincerely thank veteran Party member Nguyen Tien Nghiem for his contributions to the glorious revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation.
