People living on Nguyen Tuan Street (Thanh Xuan District, Hanoi) have begun to move their belongings and make way for road expansion to help solve traffic congestion in the area.
Nguyen Tuan Street is about 1.1 km long, running parallel to Ring Road 3, intersecting with Nguyen Trai and Le Van Luong streets. About 480 m from Le Van Luong intersection to the beginning of alley 162 Nguyen Tuan has been expanded. In particular, 720 m from alley 162 Nguyen Tuan has not been expanded, creating a bottleneck causing frequent traffic jams during rush hour.
In 2018, Thanh Xuan District People's Committee approved the project to renovate and expand Nguyen Tuan Street phase 2 with a total investment of about 400 billion VND, most of which is land clearance costs. To implement the project, the government must reclaim land from 160 households and 11 organizations. 44 constructions will have to be reclaimed and completely dismantled, 40 cases will be partially cut, of which 16/40 cases have the remaining area not qualified to exist so they must be completely demolished.
These days, households living on Nguyen Tuan Street are dismantling their houses and factories and handing over land to widen the road. The photo was taken on October 16.
Many households have dismantled their own structures to make way for the Nguyen Tuan Street expansion project.
Households quickly dismantled and cleaned up their houses to return the site to the project.
Lots of furniture was lined up on the sidewalk waiting to be moved.
Homeowners must hand over their land to the Thanh Xuan District People's Committee, but many businesses have not found new premises to move to.
Mr. Hoang (owner of a restaurant on Nguyen Tuan Street) said that he received the notice of the relocation half a month ago. "My restaurant is starting to dismantle after the notice of relocation. Currently, I have not found a new location, so I am temporarily leaving my belongings here. I have tried to find a new location to do business, but it is very difficult to find a business premises at the moment, and if I find a premises, the price is too high. If I cannot find a premises, I do not know where to go," said Mr. Hoang.
Shop owners and homeowners leave a lot of furniture for scrap collectors.
Scrap buyers work at full capacity.
Many stores have signs announcing their move to new locations. Most businesses on this street are looking to rent nearby premises to keep customers.
As soon as the residents moved all their belongings out of their homes, the contractor began demolition.
The relocated houses were covered with tarps for demolition.
Excavators and bulldozers have been brought in by the contractor to begin demolition work.
After expansion, this road has a cross-section of 21 m, a roadway width of 15 m and sidewalks on both sides of the road 3 m wide.
