The potential industry has created opportunities for supporting industry enterprises to penetrate deeper into the global supply chain. However, there are still many challenges.

Huge market opportunity

According to statistics of the Association Supporting Industry Vietnam, Vietnam has 2,000 enterprises producing supporting industrial products, of which about 300 enterprises participate in multinational supply chains. Supporting industrial enterprises are making remarkable progress in competitiveness.

Over the years, businesses have had the opportunity to reach out to customers, continuously improve production activities, production management as well as invest in ISO standards to better meet the needs of FDI enterprises in supply chains.

Mr. Nguyen Hoang - Chairman of the Hanoi Association of Supporting Industry Enterprises (Hansiba), Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Association of Supporting Industries (VASI), Chairman of the Board of Directors of N&G Group - informed that at this time, Vietnamese enterprises are participating deeply in the market. Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with major powers in the world. Along with that, the stability of politics, the regulation of macro policies of the Vietnamese government and the interest, investment and cooperation of corporations from countries around the world with Vietnamese enterprises will be an opportunity for enterprises in general and supporting industry enterprises in particular to participate in the global value chain.

Also according to Mr. Nguyen Hoang, with a market share of about 30%, it is necessary to produce in Vietnam to supply the market. US market As well as in the world's powerful countries, this is a very good "piece of cake" of market share for Vietnamese enterprises to participate in the production chain, capture market share and rise up in the near future.

“The growth of Vietnam's supporting industry as well as Hanoi will have steps forward as well as ensure the production plan set out this year and the following years,” Mr. Nguyen Hoang commented.

However, there are still many difficulties. According to experts, recent trends show that foreign manufacturers require a closed supply chain. Most of them are asking for the supply of components from AZ, instead of some individual details such as turning, welding, etc. for a long time. However, the number of Vietnamese enterprises that can meet this requirement can be counted on the fingers.

On the business side, according to Mr. Vu Manh Giap - Deputy Director of TCI Precision Joint Stock Company, understanding international certification standards will help businesses grasp opportunities to have a strategy to invest in infrastructure and machinery. Currently, the business is also meeting international production standards to produce components for FDI enterprises, so the conversion is not too difficult. However, the problem is how businesses can connect with businesses in this production value chain.

It can be seen that the opportunity to increase market share for supporting industry enterprises is huge. However, in reality, most of Vietnam's supporting industry enterprises do not fully meet the infrastructure and product quality standards according to international standards to participate in the global supply chain.

For example, the “Aerospace Quality Management System” certification – AS9100 is widely used in the aviation and aerospace industry, including production, maintenance, repair and distribution. This is considered a “passport” for Vietnamese enterprises to participate in the global value chain with multinational corporations. However, AS9100 is based on a similar structure to ISO 9001 and requires strict processes to ensure product safety and reliability, ensure product traceability as well as continuous improvement processes.

Mr. Nguyen Hong Phong - Director of An Mi Tools Co., Ltd. - shared that airlines in Europe and the US are very interested in finding manufacturing units in Vietnam to transform their supply chains, so being provided with full overview information about AS9100 Certification will create great opportunities for Vietnamese supporting industry enterprises. However, FDI enterprises have more advantages in this regard.

“According to market analysis, the increase in demand for aircraft in the next 20 years is attractive. However, in the initial stage, for Vietnamese enterprises to be able to enter the production chain, we see it as quite difficult, costly and the risk of failure is high while enterprises have not really assessed the nature of the business, as well as important factors such as stability and order size,” Mr. Nguyen Hong Phong said.

Cooperation and association, increasing internal strength for Vietnamese enterprises

In the context of globalization and the strong development of international supply chains, Vietnam's supporting industry is facing golden opportunities to participate and expand its position in the global market.

Experts say that to make the most of these advantages, businesses need to continue to improve their techniques and skills, as well as invest more in ISO and meet human resources requirements. This way, we will be more prepared to “stand foot” in the global supply chain.

On the other hand, cooperation and linkage between supporting industrial enterprises are needed to form chains and detail clusters to meet the high and strict requirements of emerging technology markets as well as increase competitiveness in global supply chains.

According to Mr. Nguyen Hoang, in order to deeply integrate into the international economy, enterprises in general and Hanoi industrial enterprises in particular have focused on many high-tech fields. industrial Green – sustainable development.

However, this is still limited and needs more attention in this field. Currently, the supporting industry only meets about 10% of the domestic market demand in Vietnam. Of which, every year, it is necessary to import no less than 100 billion USD worth of components for the electronics, automobile, and other industries and assemble them in Vietnam.

Mr. Phan Dang Tuat - Chairman of Vietnam Association of Supporting Industries - said,

support industry support is the soul of the national manufacturing industry, therefore, there needs to be supportive policies.

maximum support for industry. But in Vietnam, support is still reserved. Therefore, supporting industry Vietnam's supporting industry has not yet been able to promote its capabilities and strengths. To move forward and stand on par with other countries in the region and the world, in addition to support policies from the government, Vietnam's supporting industry needs cooperation and association with partners from countries around the world.

On the business side, solving the "problem" of standards must go hand in hand with product output. This requires more effective support from authorities in calling for investment, organizing trade activities, connecting... From there, helping businesses grasp opportunities, have strategies to invest in infrastructure and machinery, improve competitiveness in the international market and be able to "squeeze in" orders from businesses in the global value chain.
