The program is part of the workshop series "Let the deaf be heard", a project organized by the Center for Research on Education for the Deaf (CED).
Parents' belief is the motivation for children
Sharing at the workshop, all three parents of hearing-impaired children emphasized that their parents' love and trust are a great source of motivation to help children overcome their disabilities, even become confident and develop their own strengths.
After going through a difficult period because he knew his child was not as healthy as other children, Mr. Nguyen Tien Hung, father of Nguyen Ngoc Tuong Thuy, a student at Doc Lap Secondary School (Phu Nhuan District), said that the love and responsibility of a parent helped him have the initial confidence to accompany his child.
Gradually, the image of Tuong Thuy growing up, using his will and determination to overcome difficulties inspired him and his wife, helping their faith in Thuy grow.
"Parents sometimes get caught up in comparing their children with other people's children. However, each child has their own strengths and weaknesses. If parents only look at their children based on other people's criteria, they will not see their children's abilities and will lack confidence in them," he shared.
Similarly, Ms. Doan Thanh Lan, mother of Nguyen Doan Bao Khoi, an 11th grade student at Tay Thanh High School (Tan Phu District), shared her journey of learning to be a parent of a hearing-impaired child. In the early years of his life, Khoi developed normally like any other child.
When they heard loud noises, the whole family was startled but Khoi did not react, Lan and her husband began to worry.
"After taking our child for an ABR test, the family discovered that he was hearing impaired. After 6 months of facing and accepting the truth, rain or shine, we took our child to an early intervention center to help him learn his first sounds, sacrificing part of our work and career to accompany him," she recalled.
"With all love and not surrendering to fate, parents will find faith and awaken their children's inner strength so that they can overcome their disabilities in their own way," Thanh Lan advised.
Looking at the little girl who had to go through many difficulties, but she was very strong, overcoming everything. Happiness for parents is just seeing her live happily, be active, and feel the colorful life. Thank you for coming to parents!

God does not take everything from anyone.
Children with disabilities often have certain strengths. When parents devote enough effort, love and faith to accompany their children, they begin to develop their strengths and develop. Like trees that have endured many storms and rains, to one day see green shoots sprout.
Tuong Thuy, although not as lucky as her friends, was praised as an example of overcoming difficulties in elementary school, checking her own schedule, patiently sitting with her mother until 10 pm or waking up at 5 am to complete her lesson preparation.
From a child with multiple disabilities and congenital motor disabilities, Thuy worked hard to cooperate with teachers in physical therapy and took her first steps at the age of 5.
Born deaf in both ears, after a year of studying with teachers at CED, Thuy learned to read and write and entered integrated first grade at the age of 8.
Meanwhile, except for things that are too much for him and require his parents' support, Bao Khoi does most things by himself, such as studying, finding teachers, and researching information online.
During his junior high school years, Khoi was in the team for excellent students in IT, won the district prize, then continued to be in the team for excellent students in the whole city in high school.
The journey of effort of parents with disabled children is full of thorns, sometimes there are more tears than smiles. However, as Ms. Duong Phuong Hanh, director of CED Center, said, God does not give anyone everything, nor does he take everything from anyone.
"We carry out the project with the desire to support and connect deaf people with the community more. Especially for children who lack hearing aids, CED Center hopes that schools and units will contact us to promptly support the devices for children, helping them integrate more easily," said Ms. Hanh.
