In his report to introduce the workshop, Mr. Pham Minh Tuan - Chairman of the Vietnam Publishing Association, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Communist Magazine said that over the past 20 years, Directive No. 42-CT/TW has been an important political basis for the development of publishing activities.

Publishing activities have developed strongly, with growth indicators for book titles and book copies reaching and exceeding the targets set in Directive 42 and Conclusion 19. The production capacity of the publishing industry has increased by more than 2.3 times; the average book per capita ratio has reached 6.1 copies by 2023, helping Vietnam enter the top 3 in Southeast Asia.

The application of technology and digital transformation in the industry is taking place strongly, with 4,500 e-books in 2023, accounting for 15.3% of total publications. The application of AI and high technology in book editing, publishing and distribution is becoming more and more popular. E-publishing is growing with 32 publishers registered to operate in this field.

At the workshop, delegates focused on discussing the role of publishing activities, objectively assessing the quality of published content, and proposing policies to improve quality and ensure sustainable development of the industry. The solutions proposed included enhancing the responsibility of each level, each organization, and individual in the process of editing and disseminating works; taking advantage of new technology and artificial intelligence to improve publishing quality.

Prof. Dr. Dinh Xuan Dung emphasized the need for a new Directive on publishing to suit the context of national development. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Do Hong Quan, Chairman of the Union of Literature and Arts Associations, proposed a thematic resolution on literature and arts to guide the development of this field.

In his concluding remarks, Comrade Phan Xuan Thuy, Deputy Head of the Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department, affirmed the need to strengthen the Party's leadership, perfect institutions and policies, promote books with quality content, invest in infrastructure, digital transformation and enhance international cooperation. The Organizing Committee will synthesize the comments to submit to the Secretariat in the third quarter of 2025.
