78 years have passed, but the historical lessons of the August Revolution of 1945 that changed the fate of the nation are still remembered by the later generations of Ha Tinh as a way to show gratitude to the past and look towards the future.
Mr. Tran Viet Tuan - Head of Mechanical Team (Ha Tinh Urban Environment and Construction Joint Stock Company).
We met Mr. Tran Viet Tuan - Head of the Mechanical Team (Ha Tinh Urban Environment and Construction Joint Stock Company) while he was working hard at the workshop. Taking a break, Mr. Tuan confided: “When I was still in school, I listened to my teacher convey the proud and tragic history lessons of the nation. After Japan ousted France on March 9, 1945 and imposed its rule on our country, they implemented a policy of looting our people's rice to reserve for their war. In many places, they forced our people to uproot rice and plant jute. Due to the influence of the Japanese - French policy of looting and looting, combined with crop failures, from the end of 1944 to the beginning of 1945, famine occurred throughout the country. Along with the famine relief activities for the people, the anti-Japanese national salvation movement led by our Party and the Viet Minh Front rose strongly. Immediately after gaining power, the first thing that governments at all levels did was to destroy "famine", then "ignorance" and "foreign invaders" to protect the young government.
In Mr. Tuan's sharing, we feel the pain of the young generation before the famine of 1945. Because this is not only the most devastating event in modern Vietnamese history but also one of the most terrible famines that have ever occurred in human history.
Mr. Tuan also expressed his great confidence and pride in the “earth-shattering” revolution in the history of the nation. He said: “The August Revolution is a brilliant milestone in the history of our nation, opening a bright new era for the Vietnamese people. As a young man of the 9X generation, I was fortunate to be born when the country was completely independent. Therefore, I remind myself to always strive, promote national traditions, constantly improve my knowledge, fulfill my duties and responsibilities, and contribute my youth to building the country.”
Teacher Tran Thi Phuc always respects and is proud of the heroic history of the nation.
Ms. Tran Thi Phuc - teacher at Son Hong Primary and Secondary School (Huong Son) proudly shared about the historical events of the nation. According to Ms. Phuc, to gain independence, our people had to go through so much suffering.
“The famine of 1945 left young people like us haunted by the death and devastation that our people had to endure. The resounding success of the August Revolution in 1945 was the result of a long, resilient, and indomitable struggle by our people under the leadership of the Party. 78 years have passed, but the autumn of the August Revolution will always be the pride of the entire people and generations of young people today.”
Ms. Phuc's words expressed her sympathy for the losses and sacrifices of our people during the days when the country was still immersed in the darkness of slavery and the pride of today's youth in the history of the nation.
Talking about the mission of the young generation, Ms. Phuc said: “The spirit of the August Revolution has merged into the historical flow of the nation and will continue to flow to future generations. As a primary school teacher and a young person, for me, historical lessons must always be deeply engraved to teach the next generation, helping them remember the history of our ancestors. Especially, in the current context of integration, young people need to integrate but not dissolve. Young people need to have knowledge of history, foster national pride with brilliant milestones.”
Mr. Truong Hai Duc - Secretary of the Youth Union of Thach Quy Ward (Ha Tinh City).
Sharing the same ideals with the young generation of Ha Tinh today, Mr. Truong Hai Duc - Secretary of the Youth Union of Thach Quy Ward (Ha Tinh City) is always imbued with the idea of cherishing the independence and freedom of the Fatherland and remembering the bloody historical lessons of our ancestors. Mr. Duc said: "Thach Quy Ward has the place name Con Co - a place associated with the painful memories of the people of Ha Tinh when it was the burial place of people who died of starvation in 1945. Reading the History of the Party Committee of Thach Quy Ward (1930-2015), I understood more about the misery of the people at that time".
It is known that from the end of 1944 to the beginning of 1945, a terrible famine occurred throughout the country, taking the lives of more than 2 million people. In Ha Tinh alone, 50,000 people died of hunger. In Trung Tiet and Ha Tinh town, there were a high number of people who died of hunger, lying everywhere... Under the leadership of the Party, the people's struggle movement was pushed to a new level. Taking advantage of the opportunity when Japan surrendered to the Allies in Indochina, the uprising committees at all levels led the entire army to rise up and seize power.
“As a modern-day Vietnamese citizen, I tell myself to always respect the history and sacrifices of our ancestors. At the same time, I hope that young people will always remember the great contributions of our Party and revolutionary predecessors, previous generations, and strive even harder for an increasingly prosperous Vietnam,” said Mr. Truong Hai Duc.
Mr. Truong Hai Duc (far right) always strives to fulfill his duties, contributing to building his homeland to develop and become prosperous.
The young generation of Ha Tinh in particular and the young generation of Vietnam in general always remember the valuable stories and historical lessons from the famine of 1945 and the great significance of the August Revolution. Looking back at the past to appreciate and be proud of the history of the nation, the young generation today constantly strives to contribute to building a prosperous country.
