The five countries issued a joint statement condemning Hamas and its actions and stressing their support for Israel’s efforts to defend itself. The statement also warned that this is not the time for those hostile to Israel to use last Saturday’s Hamas attacks as an opportunity.

The United States and its European allies recognize the legitimate aspirations of the Palestinian people and support justice and freedom for both Israelis and Palestinians.

The joint statement stressed that in the coming days, as allies of Israel, these countries will continue to coordinate and unite to ensure Israel's ability to defend itself and ultimately create conditions for a peaceful and integrated Middle East.

Iran claims it is not behind the Israel-Hamas conflict

Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said Iran had nothing to do with the weekend Hamas attacks on Israel, but called it an "irreparable" military and intelligence failure by Israel.

On the same day, top Hamas commander Ali Barakeh also stated that, contrary to reports, Iran was not involved in planning or encouraging attacks on Israel. Hamas said the attack had been planned for a year.

Hamas has been producing its own missiles and training fighters since the 2014 Gaza war without support from Iran or Hezbollah, according to Hamas leader Ali Barakeh.

Russia wants to play a role in resolving the Israel-Gaza conflict

Also on October 10, Russia said it was in contact with both Israel and Palestine and would seek to play a role in resolving the conflict between the two sides. The Kremlin stressed Russia's influence on both sides.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Russia has long-standing historical ties with the Palestinians and also has “much in common” with Israel, including many Israelis of Russian descent. Russia expressed concern that the violence could escalate into a broader conflict in the Middle East.

Russia is trying to determine whether any Russians are among the hostages held by Hamas. Spokesman Dmitry Peskov also dismissed the idea that Russia would benefit from a war in the Middle East as the conflict in Ukraine continues.
