According to the Houthi news channel Al-Masirah, the US-UK coalition has conducted many airstrikes on Houthi-controlled positions in the port city of Hodeidah on the Red Sea coast in Yemen.
Al-Masirah said the attacks targeted areas in and around the port city, but did not affect the military capabilities of the Houthi forces. There were no reports of damage or casualties.
The US-led coalition airstrikes came a day after the Houthis launched a missile attack on the Pollux oil tanker in the Red Sea. The action was said to be in response to the US State Department's designation of the group as a "specially designated global terrorist group" for its repeated terrorist attacks and hijackings of international commercial vessels in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden since November 2023.
Houthi attacks on cargo ships in the Red Sea are raising insurance premiums and forcing many shipping lines to avoid the area.
The US and UK have launched several strikes against the Houthis, but have not been able to stop the group from attacking cargo ships. Houthi representatives have warned that the group will not hesitate to carry out more attacks in retaliation against the UK and US.
