Bang Nhi said that in 6th grade, she and Pham Quang Hoai were classmates and became close friends. Thanks to that, Nhi learned about her friend's situation.
"At that time, through the story of Hoai's close friend, I just learned that her mother left when she was young, and her father was sick. Only during Tet did her mother come back to visit her for a few days. Therefore, from childhood to adulthood, Hoai and her brother were taken care of by their grandparents. Recently, my mother came back from a parent-teacher meeting and told me that she had met Hoai's grandmother. Her grandmother said that her grandfather now has cancer and the economy is difficult, so Hoai's education will probably have to stop," Bang Nhi said.
Knowing the story, Bang Nhi suggested to her mother that she ask an adult to help her best friend. After thinking about it, Nhi's mother, Le Thi Thanh Hien, told her daughter to write a letter to an uncle she used to know who was working for a non-governmental organization, Mr. Hoang Trong Thuy (living in Thua Thien - Hue province) who often helped poor students, to ask for a scholarship.

"In the letter, I tried to explain Hoai's family situation and hoped that Ms. Thuy would find a way to help her. After finishing the letter, I asked my mother to review it and correct any mistakes so that I could rewrite it more completely. The purpose of writing this letter is for Ms. Thuy and everyone to help Hoai overcome her difficulties. I just hope she gets help so she doesn't have to drop out of school," Bang Nhi confided.
Ms. Hien (Bang Nhi's mother) said that after completing the letter, she took a photo and sent it to Mr. Hoang Trong Thuy. When he saw the handwritten letter from his 7th grade student, Mr. Thuy posted it on his personal Facebook page. The handwritten letter with beautiful handwriting and touching content about friendship attracted the online community to share and comment.
"When I heard my daughter offer to help her close friend in difficult circumstances, I was very touched. My daughter is so young but already cares for her friends like that, which makes me very pleased. I also did not expect that the handwritten letter my daughter wrote after sending it to Ms. Thuy would be shared so widely by the online community," said Ms. Hien.
Someone has contacted support
Speaking to Thanh Nien reporter, Mr. Hoang Trong Thuy said that he is a son of the Central region, born into a poor family and thanks to a scholarship, he overcame adversity to go to school. Currently, Mr. Thuy is the director of the charity fund for children and the chief representative of a non-governmental organization with projects supporting health and education for children in difficult circumstances in many countries, including Vietnam.
"Nhi's mother and I met through social media. Knowing that Nhi has a passion for reading, I once gave her books. Ms. Hien knows that I often help poor students, so she asked me to help her daughter's friend. I told Ms. Hien to ask her daughter to write a letter, one is to train her to be compassionate, two is to help me understand her situation so I can find a way to support her. I was very touched when I received the handwritten letter written by my 7th grade student," Mr. Thuy confided.
According to Mr. Thuy, after posting Nhi's handwritten letter on social media, his friends also contacted the 7th grade girl's homeroom teacher to support her close friend. "I will continue to monitor and accompany Nhi's friend when needed," Mr. Thuy shared.
As Thanh Nien reported, over the past 2 days, social networks have been spreading images of Bang Nhi's handwritten letter with emotional content describing the pitiful situation of a classmate, Pham Quang Hoai. The letter was sent by the 7th grade female student to an uncle she once knew, asking him to support a scholarship for her close friend.
