Not only tourists but also local people are always excited and proud of the beauty and luxury that is changing day by day of the coastal space in Hue in recent times. The white sand beaches with golden sunshine, interwoven with green corridors connected with open traffic routes, create charming ink paintings.
In the southern coastal area of the city, coastal tourism urban areas have been gradually formed. The most prominent mark here is the Chan May - Lang Co Economic Zone (EZ) formed on an area of 28 thousand hectares, with a comprehensive nature, clearly showing the tourist urban area, industrial park, customs area, seaport services... Currently, the technical infrastructure and traffic in this EZ are synchronized and smooth... Chan May Port is considered the "heart" of this EZ, conveniently receiving ships with a capacity of more than 70 thousand tons specializing in transporting goods in the region to neighboring countries. Not only that, this place is implementing logistics projects with large-scale warehouse infrastructure, aiming to form a large logistics center in the Central region. Currently, Chan May - Lang Co EZ has attracted 56 projects, with an investment capital of 83,671 billion VND. Among these are international-scale coastal tourism and service development projects, putting the Hue brand on the world tourism map.
Following the city's development policies and orientations, many people feel that in addition to the strategy of creating attraction for the southern coastal area, in Thuan Hoa district, or Phu Vang district... there has been a systematic plan to develop Hue urban area towards the sea, in order to exploit the potential and advantages in this space. The clearest evidence is when many major roads are formed from the center towards the sea, connecting the coastal road and Thuan An bridge over the seaport nearly 2.4km long is in the completion stage, creating an inter-regional corridor in the east, connecting the two areas of North and South of Hue city. In this area, many advantageous and attractive land funds are being formed for investors to exploit sea tourism services, seaport logistics, high-tech aquaculture and seafood...
The coastal area of Phu Vang district currently has no trace of small fishing villages. Moreover, in Vinh Thanh and Vinh Xuan communes, there is also a plan to form a coastal tourism service urban area. The traffic infrastructure in this area has been connected, and the lighting system has been invested synchronously. On the coast, there are international branded tourist areas, such as the Vinh Thanh and Vinh Xuan high-class resort of BRG Group Joint Stock Company; Hue Amusemen & Beach Park - high-class villa service area...
During our recent field trip, we also saw a very new movement in Phong Dien town, especially the modern investment in the transportation system connecting from the center to the sea. Thanks to the open roads, the communes and wards identified as coastal villages, such as Phong Thanh, Phong Phu, Phong Hai, etc., now have a lot of traffic, and the two-way exchange of goods is quite convenient. Phong Phu ward (former Dien Loc and Dien Hoa communes) has become a type V urban area, connecting the industrial cluster and Dien Loc seaport, commercial area, promising to become a bustling coastal city in the north of the city in the future.
New momentum
According to Decision 1745/QD-TTg, dated December 30, 2023 of the Prime Minister approving the Planning of Thua Thien Hue Province (now Hue City) for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050, the eastern region including coastal districts, towns and towns of the city is also oriented to develop as spaces to create green corridors to promote marine economy, industry, trade, services, tourism, etc.
Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Dinh Thien, former Director of the Vietnam Economic Institute, who has always closely followed the planning of Hue City, also affirmed in a conference related to planning work recently organized by the city that, in the city's development corridors, the coastal corridor adjacent to Tam Giang - Cau Hai lagoon is a key space with potential and advantages for economic development.
According to Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Dinh Thien, considering what has been, is being and is being prepared in terms of infrastructure, mobilizing resources of the city directly under the Central Government, the factors that serve as a launching pad for the coastal corridor through Hue will develop many new spaces. In which, the central area is Hue city which is developing towards the sea; the north is Phong Dien town and the south is Phu Loc district, linked with satellite cities in Quang Dien, Phu Vang... will form a chain of coastal tourism urban areas, industrial urban areas, high technology, linked with seaports and Phu Bai International Airport, the western corridor..., creating momentum for Hue to develop quickly and sustainably. That structural model is not closed but always open in many directions, creating a chain connecting regions in the Central region, spreading out to the whole country, reaching Indochina through the sea gateways of Chan May, Thuan An, Dien Loc ports.
I agree with the comment of Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Chu Hoi, former Deputy Director General of the Vietnam Administration of Seas and Islands on the sidelines of the recent "Marine Conservation" workshop in Da Nang City: What exists in the marine space of the Central region is the foundation for localities to strongly develop the sea and turn to the sea to get rich. Particularly in Hue City, the marine spaces that exist with historical elements and cultural spaces are considered "rare", not every locality has them. Therefore, this expert advised and recommended that, when constructing architectural works for tourism and services in those spaces, it is necessary to ensure harmony and method, and be careful to create a unified and attractive landscape...
Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Chu Hoi added that Hue City is one of the localities in the Central region that the Government has identified as being in the planning to focus on strong and rich development of the sea, so it is imperative to eliminate the mindset of only being in coastal areas. To go further out to sea, it is necessary to reorganize the marine economic space, strengthen regional linkages, and link coastal areas with the sea...
Hue City is facing many opportunities to open up development spaces in many fields. The existing sea spaces, if viewed from a broad and multi-dimensional perspective, will contribute to further socio-economic development.
