Mr. Nguyen Xuan Son (Chairman of the Vietnam Cat Association, Member of the Standing Committee of the Vietnam Animal Protection Association) said that the cat competition on October 28 and 29 is the largest competition in Vietnam this year. The competition brings together nearly 90 contestants from Southeast Asian countries with 10 different breeds.
Each cat goes through 4 rounds of competition to select the most beautiful contestant.
"The judges are all certified by the World Cat Federation and can judge all breeds. After 4 years of working on cat welfare, we hope the competition will be promoted to bring equal voice to cats and animals in general, promote pet breeding in Vietnam and related service industries," said Mr. Nguyen Xuan Son.
A beautiful cat needs to meet all standards from the World Cat Federation regarding head, body, fur... Especially candidates with a friendly attitude and good socialization with humans will be given high scores.
The judges are from Europe, including the leaders of the World Cat Federation. This is not only an opportunity for domestic cat owners to compete with foreign contestants, but also helps amateur cat lovers and breeders in Vietnam to upgrade their knowledge and approach world standards.
The white Maine Coon cat owned by Ms. Ly Bao Tran (34 years old, living in Nha Trang) surpassed a cat worth nearly 1 billion VND from Thailand and won the championship in the adult cat category. This cat is surrounded by many "fans" because of its size of 8kg, smooth white fur and activeness.
"I joined the contest with the main desire to learn from experience, so when I won the prize, I was extremely surprised. In addition, I also have a domestic cat that I picked up on the street that also entered the final round. I want to spread the message that both Western and Vietnamese cats are equally worthy of respect and condemn the act of eating dogs and cats," Ms. Tran shared.
Ms. Thanh Truong (44 years old, living in Tan Phu district, Ho Chi Minh City) shared that she has 7 years of experience raising and breeding pet cats in Vietnam. To the festival today, her family brought 2 female cats, worth 10,000 USD and 3,000 USD.
"There are many cat markets, but to have a beautiful standard cat like us is rare, so the value is high. Before coming here, I also spent time creating a special diet, taking care of the fur, making the cats comfortable so that they don't get stressed when going out in public... So I hope the cat will win a high prize," Ms. Thanh added.
One of the main goals of the competition is to help prevent violence and abuse against animals and to research topics and projects on animal protection.
The cat beauty contest is welcomed and responded to by many young people in Ho Chi Minh City.
Many young people enjoy participating in the cat beauty event. In the contest, there are many types of cats such as: Bengal cats, British Shorthair cats, British Longhair cats, Egyptian cats and Lykoi cats….
Nguyen Thanh Thuy Tien traveled from Dong Nai to Ho Chi Minh City 3 days ago to participate in the contest. ''I took the kids out for a walk and also had a chance to get a red pedigree for them.
