Real Madrid new boy Kylian Mbappe is demanding his former club Paris St Germain pay him €100m in unpaid wages and bonuses.
According to L'Équipe, Mbappe claims PSG owe him the remaining salary and various bonuses, including a loyalty bonus, which has not been paid since April.
Despite his great contributions to PSG during his 7 years with the club, Mbappe left the French team in unhappy circumstances. He left as a free agent after his contract expired, but PSG, especially President Nasser Al-Khelaifi, was not satisfied.
Although initial information said that Mbappe did not need PSG to pay him for his loyalty, the latest developments show that he is involved in a financial dispute with the French team.
The issue revolves around a total of €100 million, including outstanding wages and loyalty bonuses agreed as part of the contract.
Mbappe's representatives have cited 'article 259' of the Professional Footballers' Association's Statutes to justify their demands. This stipulates that clubs must pay their contracted players on the last day of each month under common law terms. Mbappe's team are using this provision to highlight the club's obligation to meet its financial commitments.
PSG's stance and ongoing negotiations Despite the apparent outstanding payments, PSG are said to have no intention of paying the outstanding amount. The club's delay has led to a stalemate, although the situation has not yet escalated to a legal dispute. Both parties are currently in talks, trying to reach an amicable solution.
Currently, Mbappe and PSG are still in the process of negotiating. The 25-year-old striker has not taken legal action yet, showing his willingness to resolve the issue through dialogue. However, the outcome of these negotiations is still uncertain.
Currently, Mbappe is with the French team participating in EURO 2024. He has not scored any goals in the tournament but broke his nose and had to sit out the match against the Netherlands in the early morning of June 22.
