Maguire is the best in Man Utd's win over Luton

Center back Harry Maguire got 7.5 points - higher than his partner and the only scorer of the match Victor Lindelof.

"Maguire once again became the most outstanding defender," wrote the Daily Mail (UK). "There is no doubt that Maguire deserves the biggest compliment for his performance."

As the most expensive defender in the club's history, Maguire was heavily criticised last season for his lack of form. He was even stripped of the captaincy and put on the transfer market, before deciding to stay and fight for a starting spot. The opportunity came to the England international when the "Red Devils" defense was hit by a storm of injuries. In the last six matches, the English centre-back has always been among the best players for Man Utd, and contributed to four victories in all competitions.

Yesterday, he played the full 90 minutes, blocked three shots, cleared three balls, won three of four duels, completed 91% of his passes and even created a chance for a teammate. However, there were still issues that kept Maguire from getting a higher rating, such as losing possession 11 times and completing just nine of his 13 long passes.

Maguire's partner Lindelof received a 6.5 - mainly thanks to his run from the edge of the box to open the scoring in the 59th minute. Full-backs Diogo Dalot and Sergio Reguilon both received 6s.

Goalkeeper Andre Onana and midfielder Scott McTominay received 7 points. The Daily Mail said Onana did not have much to do against Luton Town, but still left his mark with a diving save from Carlton Morris. McTominay was rated more effective than Christian Eriksen. The British newspaper also advised coach Erik ten Hag to let McTominay play higher up the pitch to maximize his ability, as happened with the Scotland team.

After being sent off and made a villain in the 3-4 defeat to Copenhagen, Marcus Rashford has regained his confidence. The "No. 10" played a key role in the decisive goal, shooting from the right into the crowd in the middle of the penalty area, allowing Lindelof to score the rebound. He was rated 6.5 with the comment: "He just needs one goal to bring back his smile."

Bruno Fernandes also received a score of 6.5 because "he wasn't outstanding, but no one could fault his effort".

Meanwhile, after scoring twice against Copenhagen, Rasmus Hojlund missed at least two good chances. Alejandro Garnacho also missed a chance to score against the Luton goalkeeper. Both were therefore given a score of 6 - the same as coach Ten Hag. According to the Daily Mail , like the 1-0 win over Fulham, the win over Luton felt like it hid major cracks in Man Utd. The newspaper praised Ten Hag for picking Lindelof ahead of Raphael Varane, but stressed that fans were still concerned about the team's lack of style and clear tactics.
