The Vietnamese kickboxing team has just achieved impressive results at the first World Cup in 2025 (April 7-12, Thailand), with a total of 19 medals, including 5 gold, 8 silver and 6 bronze.
In this tournament, the Vietnamese kickboxing team competed in 20 events with 13 fighters. The tournament gathered 674 athletes from 45 countries and territories, which was a valuable opportunity for Vietnamese fighters to learn from experience.
Among them, boxer Hoang Thi Thuy Giang ( Dong Nai ) excellently won 2 golds/a total of 5 medals, in the women's light contact 50kg and women's light kick 50kg categories.
The remaining three gold medals belonged to Nguyen Thi Ngoc Ngan ( Ben Tre ) in the women's full contact 56kg category, Phung Thi Hong Tham (Dong Thap) in the women's light contact 65kg category, and Hoang Trong Vy (Gia Lai) in the men's lowkick 45kg category.
The highlight of the tournament is the effort to socialize funding from the Vietnam Kickboxing Federation, helping the team participate without financial obstacles.
President of the Kickboxing Federation, Dr. Vu Duc Thinh, said that Vietnamese boxers have shown remarkable progress thanks to careful preparation. The tournament is not only an opportunity to compete with strong opponents but also an opportunity to evaluate major rivals such as the Philippines and Thailand, towards the 33rd SEA Games taking place in Thailand at the end of 2025.
Another good news is that boxer Luong Van Den was awarded the gold medal at the 2024 Asian Kickboxing Championship (in Cambodia) right at this tournament, after the Uzbekistan athlete who won the gold medal was discovered to have used doping and had his medal stripped.
On April 12, the team will return home, bringing with them pride from their brilliant achievements in the international arena.
