Automatically grant scholarships to Vietnamese people

Times Higher Education (UK) in collaboration with the International Education Consulting Center (Ministry of Education and Training) organized a study abroad exhibition on October 27 with the participation of many non-traditional destinations, notably the Macau Special Administrative Region (China). Speaking to Thanh Nien , Ms. Anita Fu, in charge of international admissions at the University of Macau, said that when receiving applications from candidates, the school will base the scholarship on academic achievements.

"Students with excellent academic achievements will automatically be awarded a full scholarship covering tuition and accommodation for the entire duration of their studies. The academic score required to receive the scholarship will depend on the school's review board. Meanwhile, to be admitted to the school, applicants only need to submit a Vietnamese high school diploma and an English certificate equivalent to IELTS 6.0," Ms. Fu shared.

Currently, the tuition fee for undergraduate programs at the University of Macau is MOP 122,500/year (VND 387 million). The tuition fee for master's programs is MOP 87,000-102,000/year (VND 275-322 million), and for doctoral programs is MOP 37,500/year (VND 118 million).

Similarly, Ms. Sabina Sales Lei, in charge of admissions at Macau University of Tourism, informed that all bachelor, master and doctoral candidates will be considered for full or partial scholarships with a value equivalent to the tuition fee of the entire training program. Mr. Ly Tuan Phong, a visiting lecturer at the school, added that Macau University of Tourism is offering 10 scholarships for Vietnamese students under China's "One Belt, One Road" program.

At Macau Polytechnic University, Mr. Vong Weng Seng, in charge of admissions, said that after studying at the school for at least one year, students with the highest average score will receive a partial scholarship. Meanwhile, postgraduate candidates can be considered for a full scholarship worth MOP 20,000/month (VND 63 million) for doctoral degrees and MOP 8,000/month (VND 25 million) for master's degrees until graduation.

A large number of students attended the event with the participation of many "rare" Vietnamese destinations.

A representative of the Macau Education and Youth Development Bureau said that the scholarship programs of Macau schools aim to bring a different image to this special administrative region. "When mentioning Macau, people often only think of casinos. We want to create a new impression, that Macau also has a top university education, with many scholarship programs to encourage international students, including Vietnamese, to come and study," the representative said.

University associated with government scholarship

Thailand is currently offering a full scholarship program for postgraduate candidates from Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar. Ms. Paranin Jotihasthira, representative of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), said that the scholarship covers tuition fees, living expenses and accommodation. The application criteria depend on the program, but Ms. Jotihasthira said that candidates should have an average score of 3.0/4.0 or higher, and an IELTS score of 6.0-6.5 or higher.

In Denmark, Sarah Gram, director of international communications and admissions at Aarhus University, said the school has a partnership with the Danish government scholarship program to award scholarships to international students. Specifically, applicants studying in the liberal arts and business schools are fully reimbursed for tuition and living expenses; while applicants from the natural sciences and engineering departments are only reimbursed for tuition.

Ms. Gram said that tuition fees at the school range from 8,000-15,300 euros/year (216-413 million VND), living expenses are about 1,000 euros/month (27 million VND). However, Vietnamese students are exempt from taxes and enjoy free health care services thanks to the Danish government's welfare policy. International students are also allowed to work 20 hours/week and unlimited time from June to August. After graduation, international students are also allowed to stay in Denmark for up to 3 years.

Ms. Sylvie Declercq, international admissions officer at Artevelde University of Applied Sciences, said that while studying at the school, students have the opportunity to study at other partner institutions outside of Belgium.

Although there are no scholarships, students studying the Slovak language program at Zilina University (Slovakia) will study for free, according to Mr. Jozef Ristvej, Vice Rector. Meanwhile, if choosing to study in English, international students must pay a fee of 3,500 euros/year (96 million VND). "You should learn Slovak in the first year before entering the official study program," Mr. Ristvej advised.

According to Mr. Ristvej, the cost of living in Slovakia is about 200 euros/month (5.4 million VND), lower than most other countries in the European Union.

In Belgium, Ms. Sylvie Declercq, international admissions officer at Artevelde University of Applied Sciences, said that final-year students studying an international bachelor's program can apply for a partial scholarship worth 400 euros/month (10.8 million VND) compared to the tuition fee of about 8,000 euros/year (216 million VND). According to Ms. Declercq, the scholarship helps candidates cover their studies and internships at partner schools outside Belgium.
