Blockcore is the intersection of football and fashion. In every football season, sporting event, this trend is enthusiastically responded by fashion enthusiasts.
Many major brands in the world such as Louis Vuitton, Off-White, Balenciaga showed their support for this style when introducing football costumes on the catwalk. When the 32nd SEA Games took place from May 5-17, the numbered shirts quickly caught the attention of fashionistas.

Fashion houses respond
According to GQ , the Blockcore style became popular in the 80s and 90s, associated with famous players like Diego Maradona and Pelé.
In England at that time, football fans could easily see men wearing football jerseys, cheering for their favorite teams at stadiums, restaurants, and bars.
Blockcore’s most memorable milestone was the 2018 World Cup. Louis Vuitton and Off-White (under Creative Director Virgil Abloh) promoted this trend by simultaneously introducing “shorts and shirts” on the runway.
Luxury fashion brands Gucci and Wales Bonner then teamed up with sportswear brand adidas to launch Blockcore-inspired collections. In April 2023, Gucci and adidas continued to launch products marking the collaboration.
In addition, streetwear brand Palace also worked with adidas to introduce designs that strongly reflect the king of sports. The Blockcore trend went from the field to the runway, from the catwalk to the street.
During the 32nd SEA Games, the “shorts and jersey” style continued to dominate, showing its special appeal. Not only wearing this style at the stadium, fashionistas also wore Blockcore-style clothes when going out, meeting friends, taking pictures and posting them on their personal pages.

Gen Z uses Blockchain
After the enthusiastic response of rappers like Drake and Tyler, this trend became more familiar to Gen Z fashionistas. The hashtag #blockcore attracted a large number of followers and shares on social media platforms.
However, this trend is no longer limited to adidas sneakers, faded jeans or T-shirts with football player names printed on them that dads wore in the 1980s and 1990s. This style has been transformed and applied more flexibly by young people.
Blockcore's popularity is in the Y2K wave, bringing back vintage fashion. People who follow this trend can mix and match Y2K style clothes to make their outfits more fashionable.
The upper part of the outfit is usually a jersey printed with the team logo, player name, and match number. Some jerseys are quite expensive because they contain star signatures, are limited editions...
The lower half of the kit is more versatile. The loose-fitting jersey can be paired with baggy jeans, joggers or flared pants. A pair of sneakers is the perfect way to complete the outfit.
Not only men, female fashionistas also respond to this trend. Blockcore style is pursued by many stars such as Rihanna, Bella Hadid, Hailey Bieber and Jennie (BlackPink).
Female celebrities often combine jerseys with tennis skirts or wear numbered shirts in a style that hides the pants. This is also a suitable way to coordinate clothes for the hot summer weather.

The trend of sustainable fashion is increasing over the years.
Starting around 2014, searches for “cheap clothes” began to decline sharply, while searches for “sustainable clothes” increased sharply. In his book World Without Waste , author Ron Gonen argues that attention to sustainability in the fashion industry is growing exponentially, led by sustainable fashion pioneers like Stella McCartney, Eileen Fisher, and Yvon Chouinard of Patagonia.
