Many notable changes
The assessment test for admission to People's Police schools in 2025 will be adjusted. According to the Ministry of Public Security, the 2025 assessment test will consist of three parts: mandatory essay, mandatory multiple choice, and optional multiple choice.
The exam structure is different from previous years. About 70% of the knowledge on the exam will be from grade 12, the rest will be from grade 10 and 11. This adjustment is to suit the first batch of candidates graduating from high school under the 2018 general education program.
From 2025, the Ministry of National Defense plans to organize a competency assessment exam for admission to military schools. Accordingly, candidates will take the exam on a computer with tests including knowledge of Math, Literature, Foreign Language, and a comprehensive test of Natural Sciences and Social Sciences. Candidates who want to take this exam must still pass the preliminary round.
Hanoi University of Science and Technology opened the registration system for the first round of the 2025 Thinking Assessment (TSA) exam in early December, with the exam schedule from January 18-19, 2025. This is the unit that announced early, kicking off the 2025 admission season with separate exams.
In 2025, Hanoi University of Science and Technology's TSA exam is expected to be held in 3 rounds on weekends, each round will have 3-4 test teams at 30 test locations, serving about 75,000 test takers.
In addition to the previous testing sites, Hanoi University of Science and Technology opened a new testing site in Lao Cai province to support students in the Northwestern provinces.
Hanoi University of Science and Technology said that the exam structure remains stable as last year, with 3 parts: Mathematical Thinking (60 minutes), Reading Comprehension (30 minutes) and Scientific Thinking/Problem Solving (60 minutes). These are 3 independent exam parts, the questions focus on assessing the thinking ability of the candidates, not directly testing the knowledge of any subject.
The TSA test is a computer-based multiple-choice test. The total score is 100. The test results will be valid for 2 years for candidates to apply for university admission (depending on the school).
Previously, Hanoi National University and Ho Chi Minh City National University informed about changes in the structure and question types of the 2025 competency assessment exam.
In 2025, the Hanoi National University's Aptitude Assessment (HAS) will be held 6 times in March, April, and May 2025. It is expected that about 85,000 candidates will participate.
Director of the Hanoi National University Examination Center Nguyen Tien Thao said: "The format and questions of the exam have been adjusted to suit the 2018 General Education Program, with changes in the quality of the exam questions to assess students' abilities."
Limit taking multiple exams
According to the 2025 enrollment plan announced by a number of universities, many schools plan to increase the enrollment quota based on the results of separate exams and reduce the enrollment quota based on the results of high school graduation exams.
In addition to intensive review for the high school graduation exam, many candidates have to spend a lot of time practicing for the competency assessment exam. Among them, some candidates plan to take multiple exams and separate exams to increase their chances of being admitted to university. This not only increases the pressure on candidates but also adds financial costs to families whose children want to take the competency assessment exam.
According to Nguyen Thu Thuy, Director of the Department of Higher Education (Ministry of Education and Training), candidates registering for independent exams will increase their chances of being admitted to universities, however, each exam is oriented towards different fields. Based on their abilities, interests and future study aspirations, candidates choose the appropriate exam, limiting the number of exams they take.
Faced with the reality that many candidates are practicing for the competency assessment exam at exam preparation centers, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Tien Thao - Director of the Testing Center, organizing the Competency Assessment Exam of Hanoi National University, advised candidates to study seriously, diligently in each lesson, each test hour and familiarize themselves with the reference exam questions of the competency assessment exam. The most reliable exam preparation center is the high school, if students study well the entire high school program, it will be much more effective than practicing randomly at the centers.
